Trump becoming the undisputed face of the republican party is terrible in the short term but really good in the long term

A great and dangerous skill of the right is Frank Luntz-style language manipulation - if something has a name, make that name a bad word (“liberal”), if the meaning and cultural resonance are positive, make a new name for the thing that has cultural resonance but “sounds bad”.

I’m no epidemiologist, but looking at the timing of those spikes it seems like denialism in red counties may have worsened uptake in blue counties. And obviously, there are ideological “red” folks in blue counties and vice versa.

Her campaign reminds me of the old Jerry Seinfeld joke about police officers standing around. “Grab a broom, start sweeping” If all this money is being spent, it might as well help people other than political consultants and media companies

Organizational experience and business experience get conflated a lot. I like business, but working in a corporation always gives you perverse incentives, and if those incentives infect your decision making in public office it’s actually a large negative. Government is not a business, on purpose.

He looks like a sweet kid. The dehumanization going on in ICE is a big problem. Monsters, doing this on my behalf

As a sometime coach of young kids you see “remote control parents” - the ones that constantly order their kids around the court or field like they are driving. Turns out when a kid hears their parent (or parents) yell their name over and over during a game, it will distract them. Wild, right?

I agree with his “fight for us” policy. I disagree with his “ultimate doomsday death ray” policy.

Simply making these individuals repeatedly refuse to identify themselves or take off their masks serves a purpose on its own. Any other rhetorical flourishes are gravy

Kinda weird that they stopped measuring this particular poll during the longest sustained rise on record

They will keep saying it’s Biden’s fault until the stock upticks after he loses the election in 2028, then the economy will be due to “the Trump policies we put in place” until they take office and crash things again. Rinse, repeat

It’s very rich and classical in feel. It feels a movie made in the 1940s by a team of filmmakers and actors that traveled back in time from the 1990s with modern equipment, ala the final countdown

This is, I stress, like humans using feet as a form of currency. I guess you could make a case that tires are shoes. I feel like tires are like hooves at the very least.
