Unfortunately Ofcom has consistently refused to enforce its rules when it comes to GB News, except in a narrow range of cases which had been the subject of intense public scrutiny. More on them here... bsky.app/profile/stop...

I unpacked this article a bit in this blog post. The Ofcom report says flat-out that the research did not look at the harms of the manosphere to women. substack.com/home/post/p-...

So many serious questions here...

My thoughts exactly. Also, it was not even an Ofcom study. They hired a consultant to do it!

The Ofcom 'study' which involved 38 men, but no impressionable boys under 16. How can it in anyway be described as a study?
comment in response to post
The detailed write-up definitely is more nuanced, but the reporting appears to include direct quotes from the study's author - it's almost as though the report has been written one way, but then briefed out to media with quite a different spin...

Ah yes - thanks for highlighting that!

Objectively toxic for society, but excellent for rage farming clicks = happy regulator. Regulators should act on behalf of society, not industry. But, here we currently are.

This seems like textbook selection bias and they even seem to identified that the men who took part may not be representative.

A self selecting group, with no under 16s. How honest would their responses be anyway? ‘Some potential recruits refused to take part, considering the government-appointed regulator to be part of the “mainstream”. Perhaps the most impressionable group, boys under 16, were also not included.’

Why bother asking the people who have actually researched and written about it when you can pay a focus group made up of an unrepresentative sample of men to make excuses for their own failures and shortcomings?

I'd say that we have MASSIVELY underestimated it!

Britain urgently needs an online & broadcasting regulator that is serious about protecting the public rather than gaslighting us. If Ofcom is no longer capable of doing its job, then MPs need to step in and hold it to account. www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/new-of...

Unbelievable, an utter failure on Ofcom's part.

But GB News has now lost over £100 million since it launched, as advertisers steer clear following the efforts of #StopFundingHate supporters - who include many neurodivergent people. And advertisers are also becoming increasingly aware of the risks of aligning with such content. /3

Since #StopFundingHate launched, we've seen a repeated pattern in which increased visibility & understanding for a particular group is then followed by a toxic media backlash. /2 bsky.app/profile/stop...
