Funding for affordable housing is limited and we should carefully consider the wisdom of spending it on the frivolous amenities, bureaucratic complexity, and well-intentioned but expensive contracting requirements that drive per-unit costs north of $1 million. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

"Cars make us lonely." —Donald Appleyard, Livable Streets, 1981. 🧵

hottt

A publicly funded affordable housing project with 100 one-bedroom apartments came in at $800,000 per unit. The same developer built a mostly market rate building NEXT DOOR for $350,000/unit. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

This piece rhetorically asks: "Should the climate movement start demanding that everyone stop listening to Spotify? Would that be a good use of our time?" unfortunately I think many would say 'yes'. andymasley.substack.com/p/individual...

this is a brown line train to kimball

Couldn’t purchase a trieste-Ljubljana train ticket on either the Italian or Slovenian railways websites. Ended up buying it on ÖBB. Remnants of kakania?

oh no fakespot is shutting down

The funny thing is people jumping in to claim the violence today was a false flag as opposed to simply accepting the analogy and defending the weatherman (which is in line with their ideology anyway)

I’ve been reading some histories of the New Left of the 60s and it feels like some parts of the pro-Palestine movement are entering their Weatherman phase

Get yourself a partner who also believes this 😇

Ohmu rice

This is one of my bugbears with North American housing / transit discourse. It’s become an axiom on the left that austerity is the only reason various programs have failed and it’s not true.

mayonnaise is the superior fry sauce base

ok so inter vs barca was great entertainment but turns out it was far from championship-winning football

did the math for the newly proposed Pizza Tax under an absurd usage case I call "King Treatler" -- 3 meals delivered daily for 365 days The Sky ain't falling: those 1,095 meals would cost $122K instead of $121K

The contrast between the palatial entry pavillion and the absolute lack of even the most basic canopy on the platform is both depressing and hilarious, especially in this rainy day. I guess "signature architecture" is more important than real weather protection.
