What is the significance of the fact that California is never mentioned?

IANAL but that seems very strange to me as well. Which NG is he calling up?

He was always a personal programmer hero of mine. RIP

Love ya, Pete. But here's a suggested edit: Early this morning, House Republicans passed Trump's MAGA MURDER BUDGET that kicks millions of Americans off Medicaid and fund tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations...

“I’m not going to let you lie to our audience. This interview is over.”
comment in response to post
Exactly. Let Trump try to prove it. Point to the photoshopped bits and as the interviewer, say “these are added, and not in the original picture. Bring your staff in and see if they are willing to say this is in the original picture.” Let the interview end with him storming out not admitting it

One of my favorite song lyrics, from “Me and Bobby McGee”, sung by Janis Joplin and penned by Kris Kristofferson: “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.”

What about a tasteful Garamond?

No worries. Probably LA Department of Water and Power (municipal utility)

Hate on PG&E all you want, but these fires aren’t in their service territory

…f*ck off and easily get a job somewhere else.

I have no doubt that Musk appreciates and approves of the indentured-servitude-adjacent status of H1B workers. His real gripe with “native” (for lack of a better word) workers is that they can tell him to f*ck off.

Of course 😄

My explanation is that as these guys got richer, the number of people/forces in their life that said “no” to them (or just spoke the truth) got smaller and smaller until it was only left-leaning governments.

Yeah, probably better to ignore, but I like the show (and Bill’s other work) so it was just annoying 🙃

@craignewmark.bsky.social is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in tech, and revisiting his philanthropic activities on his Wikipedia page reinforces that. With all the terrible tech bros to choose from, sorry to see a good show like Shrinking use him for a throwaway joke suggesting otherwise.

Well, first of all, there is absolutely nothing at stake here 😂 Second, I understand that demographers swooped in after the fact and attached dates (which, by your def, would make me a boomer 🤬), but Coupland (b. 1961) was writing about his generation, so I go with his definition FTW 😀

Fellow ‘64, always felt GenX, not boomer. FWIW, so did Douglas Coupland.

"...and, stay with me here, what do we do if they *are* illegal aliens, but want to vote *for* Trump?"

Completely unsurprising that Westmoreland County went Trump 63.5% to Biden 35% in 2020.

I don’t think CBS has a broadcast license, since it’s a network. The affiliates might be at risk. If I’m right, it’s just another example of Trump not really understanding how anything works.

Both are cowards. Between the two of them, Musk has much more to fear. No matter what, Bezos will be insanely rich and practically unaffected no matter what, so he is the more cowardly of the two.
comment in response to post
I think for Bezos, he’s afraid of annoying Trump should he win. Musk is actively afraid of a Harris admin.

And the contest at the time was actually between Ford and Carter!

Hard to square this paragraph with reality at all: “…but in 1976 for understandable reasons at the time, we changed this long-standing policy and endorsed Jimmy Carter as president. But we had it right before that, and this is what we are going back to.” Trump was/is much worse than Nixon was.
