That’s an excellent idea

A line of guardsmen with “California National Guard” shields stand close together opposite a crowd of pro-Immigrant demonstrators in Los Angeles, CA.

Families, union leaders, and other allies who marched from Mariachi Plaza were forced to turn around after the volley of tear gas and pepperballs earlier, in the interest of safety. Still around 200 people outside MDC, National Guardsmen lining back up. More video incoming as am able

Newsom is no Dem.

Otherwise the practical effect is almost identical to the invocation of the insurrection act even though that conspicuously did not happen. *this* statute does not contemplate a unilateral takeover

One again, the statutory language. I am not sure exactly what it means and am pretty sure nobody does. I do know that it requires the governor of the relevant state to play some role. It is very weird that we do not know what this governor is doing except vaguely complaining and protest-policing.

He is having a rough time.

The situation has calmed slightly after the earlier escalation. This is still @melbuer.bsky.social helping post on this thread from a better connection off scene. In a small bit of irony, Sean took a pepperball *in* the press pass alongside the rest of targeted press which I find a bit on the nose

Imagine if one of those flash bangs had landed between that kid’s backpack and his neck before exploding.

With the amount of ammunition they’re throwing, this luck won’t hold. Someone will die, and if it happens over a child dancing with a skateboard, you can bet your ass the peaceful stage of these protests will come to an abrupt end.

“Where the fuck is Karen Bass?…We’re supposed to be a sanctuary city? What a joke! Karen Bass, why aren’t you here?”

Knocking heard and mirrors flashing from the windows of the MDC. Presumably detainees.

Press hit by tear gas earlier.

Gabriel Quiroz, Jr. speaking to Sean, “[The march] didn’t even get to get here and they started shooting at us…Karen Bass—do something about this.”

A bit earlier: National Guard shooting into a gaggle of press and demonstrators. “This os America!” one demonstrator shouts

But in practice, journalists and social media users are already getting hit with fines and even prison for sharing what’s happening on the ground The crackdown on information suggests the drone campaign is hitting nerves, and even causing more trouble than they’d like to admit. (TheEconomist)

Many children were reportedly just tear-gassed by the national guard in downtown Los Angeles during an anti-ICE protest.

They’re already shooting deterrents at the crowd.

Rubber pellets are meant to be ricocheted off the ground. When fired directly at people’s faces, they aren’t “less lethal.” The press is abusing this term & it’s failing to address the fact that cops are incorrectly handling crowd control weapons to intentionally cause physical injury.

National Guard shooting tear gas and pepperballs into the crowd outside the MDC. Video incoming.

Linda Tirado wrote about her experience being blinded by a "less lethal" fired at her by a cop for HW a few years ago. www.welcometohellworld.com/i-wait-for-t...

In a rational world, this ticking time bomb of a person would’ve been relieved on the spot and fired the next day. He was seconds away from committing a murder.

Chants of “Shame! Shame! Shame!” from the crowd as others try to stop some demonstrators from throwing things at the line, outside the MDC in Los Angeles, CA

This is @melbuer.bsky.social back on Sean’s account, sharing Sean’s vids from a better internet connection. The march has reached MDC, where National Guardsmen have closed ranks outside the building. Tensions high.
