Definitely going to see it again as soon as I get back home. It's a film that demands rewatching to catch all the stuff that's layered one upon the other.

The sound work is particularly experiential. Very much the kind of film to see at the cinema.

That comma splice in the title/headline got me like

Temple Kodam in this story embodies a solarpunk ethos of renewal as an act of rebellion (even if the process does not go as intended). It’s a great tale of fighting back, taking from those who take too much, and building community from catastrophe www.tractorbeam.earth/story/rigland

Haha, no shame required! But I do strongly believe that honest recommendations possess a purity that no amount of slop or cynicism on the internet can ever take away from us.

It becomes a secret shared, a private game of telephone; you take what has been passed, what has made home in you, & you carve out a piece for the next person. If there's a pure, ideal version of the internet, it looks something like this to me--creation, recreation, a constant shuttling of magic.

My deduction is that an honest, earnest recommendation (good, free, not engagement bait) is infectious. We're so flooded with people-shaped husks cosplaying interests (for various ends) that it's refreshing for someone to take a thing that has made home in them, carve out a piece, & invite you in.

Each newsletter is sectioned into 4: - an opening note on what's shaping my thinking at the moment - "stuff I've enjoyed" (recommendations) - "from my desk" (book, writing, event, etc updates) - "for the road" (the one CTA I want to point readers at) Recommendations get more interest, without fail.

Ahead of that, I'll be joining two debut novelists to celebrate their first appearances at the festival: Iryn Tushabe, @wordsweaver.bsky.social (Everything Is Fine Here, @houseofanansi.bsky.social) & Otoniya J. Okot Bitek (We, The Kindling, Alchemy). writersfestival.org/events/sprin...

Yeah, was wondering about this too (Carleton riding's results, that is). Carney's (Napean) is done & won; curious to see if Fanjoy kicks PP's ass. Fortier (my riding of Vanier-Gloucester) kept a stranglehold on the Lib vote, though I was quite surprised; the Cons put up a loud fight up here.

Classic (derogatory). Good reporting (and playlist) by Ephraim, however.
