If we all sat on it at once I bet we could bend the arc of the moral universe so hard people would start sliding off

Gearbox are good at genre names. "Shlooter" is honestly one of the best jokes I've ever seen a marketing team make

People will say "I will always stand on business by this statement." and their statement is "I'm not touching you teehee I'm not touching you!"

That first trailer was great, but did it show gameplay? Did it have anything except for some not very original (even ignoring the plagiarism) aesthetic flourish and a good needle drop? Was, maybe, the song the entire reason that trailer was great? Yes. That's all what happened.

All these people are wrong, Bard is absolutely just better rogue, unless all you care about is damage optimization

By this time next year Gigabits will have outlived Bungie!

I used to think Batman was the character who has had his romance plotlines the most thoroughly ruined by marketing. No. At least he has canonically dated his love interests

Pour one out for Juna, pulled into the Rean vortex 🙏 You deserved better. Maybe next time they'll commit to writing a canon romance and no more female characters will have to be sealed in the infinite maybe zone

It's not a coincidence that the best protagonist they've ever written is the one who had her romance actually written into the game's story. It turns out romance can be a really good vehicle for character driven storytelling! And you shouldn't make structural choices that force it into a sealed box!

It's a game about how healthy and honest relationships are the best defense a person can have against hate and fear, which is true and great until you see the game's idea of a healthy relationship

I'm currently clapping, hooting, and hollering for how good and smart the writing in Trails of Cold Steel 4 is, and a filibuster-proof majority of this game's romance plotlines should end with one of the participants getting a restraining order

You should code something more worthwhile next time, like a robot that hits straight A students over the head with a bat, or a chatbot that convinces people to burn books. Those would also go a ways toward accomplishing the same goals as this project!

The ranking is A New Hope, Thrawn trilogy, Empire, everything else. When you write Star Wars you should start every scene by asking "How would 1986 Timothy Zahn go about this?"

I think it would almost definitely sell worse than Ultimate unless they had some insane Odyssey style innovation to it. I hope that they're willing to bite the bullet and do it anyway, though, because I just don't see a world where they make more Ultimates, and I'd like the series to continue.

So if they make a smash game with a heavily reduced roster, if it's still fun to play and feels worth the asking price, people will (complaining, of course, that they cut a bunch of characters) still buy and like it. They bought the pokemon games after they stopped putting all the pokemon in too.

No, that's not the point, it's the subject. Pat's point is that Smash growing every game and being huge is its entire identity and it can't get smaller. My point is that Smash has gotten bigger every time, yeah, but theres a lot more reasons to buy a smash game than "it's got a billion characters."
comment in response to post
My point is that the middle 2 Smash games both had more normal-sized rosters, but they were still wildly successful. If you want to argue that Smash 4 and ultimate have created an expectation that the game will have a huge roster, I agree, but that expectation's not the entire appeal of smash.

Brawl has 34 characters. Melee has 25. The roster size isn't the most important thing about Smash, the important thing about Smash is that it's a bunch of Nintendo characters fighting. You could sell a 34-character smash game if you put enough new shit in it. People would complain but who cares?

OW is the game that introduced that diversity chart to the world. Obviously the people making it had a troubled relationship with diversity. But you can't use that fact to "correct" characters like this without doing a dumber version of the thing you're (unconvincingly) accusing the company of doing

When Disney wanted a character in a similar style to look ethnically "Chinese" (billion person country), they gave him an upturned nose and no facial definition anywhere near his eyes. It's caricature. It's affectionate caricature, they love the character, but it's caricature
comment in response to post
If I were to tell you she looked white, I'd be reading whiteness onto a character that doesn't have any significant ethnic signifiers. Her features are all exaggerated, they're rounded, they don't closely resemble reality. You might be reading her as white because Disney uses this art style so much.

Leaving aside the crazy idea that the OW cast all look white, there's a gap between an artist at marvel giving Storm kinky hair and some rando going "To correct Hanzo I'll give him the Japanese brainpan." There's no good way to insist a racial group always has specific stereotypical facial features.

I'm disabled. Mutants are already a pretty complete allegory to me. Obviously you can read it a bunch of different ways, but I think that what you want risks emphasizing some of those readings to the exclusion of others. I also don't think a perfect allegory is desirable, particularly.

Not that I have high expectations for the Zelda movie, but this is the most imaginationless post of all time. I can't believe that anyone still thinks this way about adaptation

It's fine if they unlock an ingredient or something but it's not fun for a new player to hit a key quest that is, as far as they're likely to figure out, pure nasty RNG
