Why would a family pay for entertainment when YouTube and its content is free for kids. In the same breath, why would parents buy a new console so their kids can play free games on the console they already own? Is it similar? Maybe?

The only similarity I can think of is how YouTube has destroyed the Disney+ brand for families.

This is a very good answer. It’s super simple. Wii was a gimmick that the Wii U was trying to replicate but simply did not. Seems like top to bottom the console was doomed to fail.

Oh 100%. The market will NOT be confused as to what console this is. Sony has owned that for decades now. Something Microsoft was simply terrible at.

Oh nooooo. I never think we’ll get that but it would be nice to be able to play some games on Steam. It’s a huge market and naturally Nintendo knows they could make a killing but it also damages the brand. Sony took a chance and you can kinda see it benefitting them.

Nintendo IP*

See, that’s where I think Nintendo is different though. Nintendo might be the only market left. Where else can you buy a first party IP on?

(Thank for your responses, love to hear your opinions.) Do you think the shift in prices will scare off the casual market though? Nintendo is 100% the company families feel safe with.

(Loving your answers. You’re fantastic.) Do you think, in a way, the Switch 2 is more like the GameCube was to THAT era and with that being said do these decisions on Nintendos part leave them open to being compared to the PlayStations market which is vastly different than Nintendos?

I’ve seen some complaints that the market believed the Wii U to be TOO similar to the Wii and that casual buyers (parents mainly) didn’t see the difference from console to console to warrant a purchase. Do you think the Switch 2 might face similar issues?

How do you think the Switch 2 will do?

I have a few posts and articles from 2012 saying presales for Wii U selling out and predicting the Wii U to be hectic release comparable to the Wii. So what happened?

Much love buddy. I’m feeling some Fortnite collab and clowning on some kids might help 💕
