Eons ago MapQuest had a mode that would show a simplified map of your driving directions. Only the roads you needed (and maybe major crossroads?) were shown as straightened line segments, kind of like if somebody sketched the route for you by hand. I thought it was brilliant.

The guy who printed out my temporary driver’s license (on a plain sheet of office paper) asked me if I wanted him to fold it. I said “sure” and he rapidly folded it into this tiny wallet-sized rectangle. He said, “Look at that—perfect!” clearly proud of his handiwork. It was very cute.
