Oh, yeah, it’s this new thing for Pride this year. If you’re cis and you just have to share your thoughts and opinions on trans people, we can all yell “Shut the fuck up” and then you do so that we might finally get to talk about our own experiences.

Ruff lekking: The co-display of a pale satellite and a court-defending independent morph increases male attractiveness. Lekking began here (65°N) in the first week of May and continues, even though most females are already incubating and the first chicks are expected to hatch any day now.

The arguments against trans women in sport (and the arguments about regulating hormones or presentation or whatever) always boil down to who gets to be the fucking woman police. I want to live in a world where *no one* gets to be the woman police.

I don't agree with Biles' suggestion that segregated trans categories in sports are an appropriate place for trans women - they belong in women's sports - but I appreciate her calling out bullying and poor sportsmanship.

OMGGGGG 🔥🔥🔥

These mundane observations often go unrecorded, but then sometimes I think that for some - those who do not live in Australia - they might be of interest. This is a kangaroo print at Gluepot.

In biggest land-back deal in California history, the Yurok get back the final piece of 73 sq mi of their homeland on the state's far northern Klamath River. Good piece by Grist highlights how this Yurok land deal is just part of the extraordinary changes taking place in this part of N America.

IT’S KNIGHT TIME, SEATTLE! 😎 2025 PWHL Points co-leader, four-time Olympic Medalist and ten-time World Champion Hilary Knight has signed a one-year Standard Player Agreement. 📰 bit.ly/4jE2h…

I'm hyperventilating

the FEETS

My Washington bird list (155 species) is slowly but surely catching up with my Texas list (161).

Wood ducklings! Freshly yeeted by the looks of 'em!

I forgot that sapsuckers eat insects 😅

I feel like I always get really focused on Marsh Wrens in the Spring, but it's important to make time for all wrens.

Ok I know this picture is basically a bunch of distant dots on blue... ... but it is THIRTEEN crows mobbing a Red-tailed Hawk What did he DO!?

I wish to touch the forbidden sparrow floof

A couple of fish eaters Please don't ask me how the crow got a whole-ass trout

The world's saddest and most plaintive baby requires snacks.

So glad that upgrading my camera is allowing me to capture all of the really majestic and dramatic moments in birds' lives

Ladykiller

He caught a housefly So strong and powerful A predator

Well I approve of almost every innovation in my shiny new camera body, I remain unconvinced that reversing the orientation of the on/off switch was a necessary improvement.

Days since I last said "Hello, handsome," to a bird, not realising that a human being was nearby, resulting in misunderstanding: 0

I love birds that just say their names for you. The Western Wood Pewee is an exceptional animal in this regard.

I think the herons at my local patch are just about ready to fledge

enthusiastically texting my partner about the sex lives of catfish to show that I'm thinking of him somehow this is not received as a grand romantic gesture

The mojave rattlesnake has strikingly large scales on the top of its head - an identifying feature. For some reason it has an undeserved reputation for being particularly fearsome. I wouldn’t pet it, but like all rattlesnakes, it just wants to be left alone. #herps 🐍

Deep in the Pyrenees and barely into France, we saw a handful of Fire Salamanders (Salamandra salamandra) in the forest today. I saw this species in Belgium three weeks ago, so today’s observations help serve to bookend my trip. #herps #salamanders 🌿

Oh no I'm back in my feelings (extremely positive)

Bronco is a wild name for a cat

An absolutely stunning female Grey Phalarope in summer plumage at Loch of Spiggie, Shetland today. Unlike their Red-necked cousins which breed here in small numbers, Greys are extremely rare in spring and thus rarely enjoyed in this incredible plumage. #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #RareBirdsUK #Birds
