However it’s not all bad news, this session, 6 states saw proposals creating new State Voting Rights Acts. Why? Because the Supreme Court has gutted the federal Voting Rights Act—making it harder to fight voter suppression in court.

Many states are also copying provisions in the federal SAVE Act, by pushing proof-of-citizenship laws to vote. 56 bills have been introduced in 25 states. They’re impractical, unnecessary, and could affect anyone who may have changed their legal name, like married women.
