It was about tone for me, less the actual events. One ending was unsettling and unnerving, if not downright creepy. The other was bittersweet, but with a twinge of hope. Maybe I'm off base with that reading, but to me that points to the latter ending being the "preferable" one.

And the thing is, I'm not sure which was intended. Was each ending supposed to be similarly good/bad in their own ways (which I think they failed at), or is one ending preferable to the other (which has some implications I'm not a fan of)?

I agree there's not a "good" or "bad" ending, but I think the framing and tone of each ending points to there being a "better" ending, or at least one favored by the narrative.

I can't find any rule that says no, but it definitely seems like a case of "they can't put every edge case in or the book would be impossibly thick". At my table, I'd probably give the player a choice between stay undetected and not contribute to flanking, or become hidden and contribute.

I cannot emphasize this enough that for YEARS: -trans women played various women’s sports. -trans kids got medical assistance as they and their parents needed. -trans folk could get accurate documents. -trans folk used the bathrooms that felt appropriate. AND NOTHING BAD HAPPENED.

What I wouldn't give to have this exact version runnable on a modern OS...
