This is right. The summer of 2018 was a turning point in Trump’s first term because child separation and that weeping 6-year-old was a bridge too far. We covered abuses in the detention system relentlessly at CNN Investigates because they were wrong, but also because the WTF of it all was clear.

The most striking thing about the LA protests is how many people just dropped everything to show up and yell at federal agents. There are people in suits, and carrying dogs, and wearing flip flops or bike helmets. These are not people who planned to do this today. But there they are.

There wasn't going to be a resolution of this where Abrego Garcia went right back to ordinary life in Maryland with a path to potential citizenship. We demanded his return so he could receive due process and contest allegations before his ability to remain here was determined. That now will happen.
