My periodic rave at how much I love #RSS (I am tying together lots of data for my work) and how it is truly the glue that holds together much of the open web. We are so lucky it gained critical mass before the worst of Web 2.0 took over and that it has lasted. We need to keep it alive at all costs.

It's OK for you to let a post go by on the Fediverse without telling the author they're doing it wrong.

At the (unexpected) @fediforum pre-conference with @j12t , @scott , and @ozoned #FediForum

Hi @Vivaldi idea either for the Vivaldi browser "Tools" section or as a dashboard widget: It would be good to have a 100% private "strong password generator" built into the browser additional to the one that suggests passwords for form elements. I find this one sometimes appears, sometimes doesn't.

I just bought my tickets to this year’s #Fediforum, and if you care about the Open Social Web - both Bluesky and Mastodon/Fediverse enabled offerings and beyond—you should too. Very worth your time.

Trying hard to remember this.

@fediversereport hello! I just recently launch #Tvmarks a cousin app of postmarks. Tvmarks lets you track shows you are watching and mark episodes as watched. It also can post your activity to a federated account just like postmark. githuib: https://github.com/stefanhayden/tvmarks my instance […]

My periodic post that i just love @signalapp as an IM, and use it as my default for both work and home instant messaging chats, etc. I do wish they allowed us to pin more chat groups in the app, even if they just showed 4 and the rest were hidden behind a "More groups" and then you could see as […]

An unexpected obstacle to adoption. I assume Mastodon would be no different: “I spoke with a few congressional staffers who said that they had tried using Bluesky as an alternative to Twitter after Twitter was purchased by Elon Musk, but they gave up after their bosses kept getting yelled at by […]

Given the great interest that I got yesterday for my post about a low carbon day on Britain’s electricity grid I thought I’d share a post emphasising just how much wind power has to be wasted because the system doesn’t yet have the configuration to be able to […] [Original post on mastodon.green]

I’m a couple of days late to this very interesting development: Democratic Senators and Representatives have introduced a bill to put the U.S. Marshals, who provide security to federal judges, under the supervision of the federal judiciary rather than the executive branch DOJ […]

When lawyers first started getting yelled at by judges for citing hallucinated case law two years ago I naively assumed word would get around and they would all quickly learn not to This new database has 116 cases from 12 countries where this happened, and 20 of them were from just this month! […]

🔥 Pretty cool. The official WordPress Plugin has seen over 6,000 active installs by websites. I THINK that once they cross 10K+ they may qualify to be a "featured plugin" and get key placement on the WP site. Also impressive that they now support 27 (!) […] [Original post on indieweb.social]

Hello! The @blacksky.app team is looking to meet with folks from the Blacksky community (and users of rsky #ATdev) to understand what we should improve and build next. If you have 30 mins. we'd like to hear from you. Book time with @zariajalan.bsky.social here: calendly.com/zaria-blacks...

Right now, mainland Britain has got almost enough wind and solar power to meet our electricity demand. Add in the power from nuclear and a small dash of gas (used solely to maintain enough mechanical inertia to stabilise the grid) and we are having to export 4 […] [Original post on mastodon.green]

The conversation about digital identities, decentralization, and the cross-platform value in hashtags makes this episode worth your time. Thanks for recording it, @mike and @chrismessina! https://dot-social.simplecast.com/episodes/chris-messina-nhUtOY8h

Got curious and confirmed. If an account is added to both exclusive and non-exclusive lists, exclusive wins and posts from that account will be excluded from Home timeline 👌 #MastoDev

When top Trump adviser Stephen Miller threatened on May 9 that the administration is “actively looking at” suspending habeas corpus in response to an “invasion” from undocumented immigrants, he was operating on a fringe legal theory that a right-wing faction has been working to legitimize for […]

It’s crucial to keep emphasizing that these EOs were lawless. There was never a plausible argument they were constitutional. This administration has nothing but contempt for the constitution and the rule of law.

Say, what's the first major-release film to mention either "the internet" or "the world wide web?" (Or, alternatively, "DNS" or "SMTP" or "TCP/IP" or other uniquely internet technology, though that seems doubtful.) And I mean mention as in, either in dialogue or printed and shown on screen in […]

Utah is going to legally require social media interoperability and portability of the social graph. Wow, this law has been signed and it somehow passed under my radar. IMHO It has a good change to substantially impact the open social web, in a very good way. Thanks @tchambers for the tip! […]

I dunno, man - if you're going to do a tarrif on Apple, at least have the poetic justice to make it 30%

Our french-speaking followers may be interested in the webinar we'll give on June 12 about the "Universal Social Network" - a social network that is not bound to a specific app, but that any app can plug into. Open social web browser Surf makes it easier for anyone to build custom feeds https://techcrunch.com/2025/05/22/open-social-web-browser-surf-makes-it-easier-for-anyone-to-build-custom-feeds/

I have posted about this before, but wanted to re-iterate how much in love I am with FediAlgo: I’m currently on paternity leave so have around half an hour per day for social. That is of course far from enough to keep up with a chronological timeline like mine, and previously with Mastodon the […]

Sometimes I regret organizing #FediForum, because an organizer, I can only run so many sessions before I hijack my own unconference. If somebody else organized it, and me being simple an attendee, I'd be tempted to call a session for every time slot available, there are soo many things I'd love […]
