Been discussing this elsewhere on this app. In weather like this, one can do a lot to manage temperatures, but at some point a limit is reached and then yuck…

I also notice that midnight on Saturday is forecast to be 22C. At that point, I start wishing I had a cellar to hide in.

I should note that this does entail me getting up at five in the morning to open doors and windows to let that cooler air in! During heatwaves like this, everything needs to be closed by about eight to keep the heat out

Thanks to you, I have now read it and I loved this line, “Plans for the further development of Howden include a permanent set of traffic lights, …”

I hate to give any hint to my age, but this was pre-Kindle. Most of the physical books we now have are either not available on Kindle - pre-date it and haven’t been republished on Kindle - or are “picture” books that Kindle doesn’t present well. But, you are right, e-books really save space

We weren’t very good about getting rid of stuff until one day we realised we either had to reduce the number of books we owned or buy a new house. The stress of making that call completely changed our view of keeping stuff. (For the avoidance of doubt, we are still in the same house)

I have heard that type of comment before, but it was only on looking back, after reading your comment, that I took-in that there were two Andrews on the panel!

I hadn’t noticed until you pointed it out; makes it even more shocking (and probably says something about the right)

This is part of the approach, take something that is actually quite hard - effectively and efficiently cleaning a large fleet of trains - and pretend all it takes is a bit of “common sense” and “elbow grease”. Thus demonstrating how your money is being wasted

Some lines, eg Bakerloo and Central, are having much worse levels of graffiti than usual because of a shortage of trains - somewhere the article mentions this.

Now, the minimum standard bike lane width, according to the CROW Manual, is 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) in urban areas. That way, two people can cycle abreast and a third can pass them.

I have watched our neighbours with their latest - born end-October. They have the “luxury” of being independent contractors who could both afford to reduce their hours. Watching them being able to share looking after the new one and their toddler as a joint enterprise has been great

Have you seen openrailwaymap.org? It has many historic railway routes on it, as well as current

I’m the same 😃. Though there is also one on my electronic kitchen scale but I have managed to pretend that one doesn’t exist for the last few years

Saw it at the Arts Picturehouse with the film-maker and and a few of the characters in attendance. It was lovely. Made more interesting because we had just spent some time in Cromer

“bezel”, sorry. Though I expect bevel will work as well
comment in response to post
I’ve just seen the @robertshrimsley.bsky.social explanation - “rounded bevel”. Now it all makes sense

I read that centred text and I have no idea what they actually plan to *DO* - “a bunch of people who are doing stuff are going to get together with some other people who are doing stuff and do some stuff” 🤷‍♂️

Did a quick visit this evening; then Tue-Fri lunchtimes. I love it sat out on Jesus Green in the sun ☀️, and Cambridge has one of the best food choices for lunch. Weather forecast for this week not the best but better than last year 🌧️

Will you be doing Cambridge Beer Festival during your weekend?

Remember - the impact of the Tory’s hard Brexit was particularly bad for fishing because 1) the sector exported a lot to Europe 2) is highly sensitive to trade barriers (famously fish needs to get to its customer quickly…). Almost no sector was worse affected 👇

Our cleaner, in Cambridge, which isn’t London but probably close enough to be indicative, charges £17/hour. She is self-employed and I pay her for the time she works, so taxes, holiday, sick pay, etc. are her problem.

Sorry for overreacting

Is that a speaker on the left. If it is, I have views. (Note: I have no idea about your specific circumstances so may have other views)

Anyway, here's the link to its bookshop, for those who don't want to Google for it. Lots of great books there! shop.oldoperatingtheatre.com/collections/...

Apologies, that I put a quote mark after rather than before territory
comment in response to post
I think we are in “public interest” versus “interesting to the public territory”. It is irrelevant to what is happening in Paris, but a bunch of people want to know. (I’m with you; I wish they wouldn’t)
