Have they perhaps considered making themselves smaller? Taking up less space? Adding "I could be wrong" before things they're an expert on? Inflecting the end of sentences to make statements sound like questions? Adding 'sorry' as a filler word? No? Ah, I've heard some folks feel they have to.

Not much here is actually new but this is a very good overview of DOGE, which can only now be viewed as a failure on its own terms and a catastrophe on any other terms www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

what a stupid presidency, what a stupid fucking war

I see people saying stuff like "why criticize Substack but give other problematic platforms (like, say, YouTube) a pass? Which is a fair point. Thing is, YouTube is a quasi-monopoly for sharable video. Substack wants to have a newsletter monopoly but *isn't there yet*. And it should never happen.

It strikes me that if we had swarms of masked men with weapons of war roaming Wall Street chasing down tax cheats and white collar criminals, many Americans would respond differently than they are to swarms of masked men with weapons of war roaming the streets of LA chasing down brown people.

I mean honestly, no? A significant majority of Americans are outraged at masked ICE agents kidnapping people and the Trump administration sending them who knows where.

Fuck

I get what they are trying to say, but "mask" is not purely a noun for an item of PPE. Masks, in general, are things which cover other things, hence (among other things) the verb form, "to mask" and the gerund "it was masking the sound of..."

I’m sorry but we need to unleash propaganda and economic warfare against the mainstream media that will make “no angel”-gate look tame.

The thing people refuse to grapple with is they’re perfectly okay with many of these techniques being applied to poor Black people, and they’re outraged when people point out this fact.

After months, I remain unconvinced by this theory. That DHS is acting extremely unprofessionally is not evidence of secret J6ers. Rather, I believe it reflects longstanding culture problems within ICE, a chaotic multi-agency approach to raids, the corroding effects of quotas, and Miller’s extremism.

Turn Gestapo: The cleric can use their Channel Divinity ability to emit an aura of shame and righteous judgment. Any Gestapo, fascists, lickspittles, or thugs in the area of effect must use the waddle action to move at full speed away for three rounds timesofsandiego.com/life/2025/06...

How the F can the NY Times even ask this question in 2025? 86% of LGBTQ voters voted for Harris, up from 71% for Biden. After the hell Trump has unleashed since Jan, erasing queer from web sites, killing the suicide hotline, he's even more unpopular. Seriously? Nothing but clickbait bullshit.

What if I told you the mental image of “criminal thugs” is highly racialized, and the reason policing still holds so much hegemony is due to this racialization?

Because the people who are voting for Cuomo and writing puff pieces about him think this is good

There was a survey a few weeks ago that found half of Americans thought ICE was just hunting criminals. The institutional press have failed to make clear ICE’s primary strategy today is capturing people through the use of compliance traps, and shipping them off to substandard prisons in the South.

Masked ICE agents spotted swapping out license plates this morning in Bell Gardens, CA

This is what “a gang” is so much more than some kids spray painting stuff or whatever. This is fucking insane

Why did folks stop talking about grocery prices? I just left the store and OMFG…

yeah -- ground beef hit an all-time high last week, and nobody appears to be reporting on that www.bls.gov/charts/consu...

In their analysis of more than 12,000 regions across 55 countries, a team of researchers … found that for every 1°C increase in global temperature, global food production could decline by approximately 120 calories per person per day—equivalent to 4.4% of current daily consumption.

This heat wave is absolutely bone crushing. I'm so glad I installed central air two years ago. But if you're without AC, or you're dealing with a heat wave for the first time because it's reaching areas that don't historically get this hot, here are a few tips from my years of poverty in a desert:

Even though they’re in the minority, Congressional Democrats have a lot of tools they can use here. In addition to showing up at detention centers etc, Dems can grind the Senate to a halt, push impeachment articles against Noem in the House, and more. Flood the zone.

My relatives in East L.A. — born in the U.S.A. — are afraid to go outside because masked men with guns are randomly snatching people off the street. This is a government terrorism campaign against its own people.

They’re just wrong. What happened is liberals didn’t push back and in fact they ceded the argument to the right. In 2016 there were consequences for the NC bathroom bill and they retreated, but then liberals got scared of Trump. It’s the exact same thing they did with immigration.

After 104 days of being unjustly detained for his advocacy for Palestinian rights, Mahmoud Khalil is finally home with his wife and newborn son.

STORY TIME: ICE rolled up. The city of Bell, California said, “Not today!”

We still have no idea who the ICE agents are. They could be insurrectionists, extremist militiamen or criminals themselves, chasing law-abiding citizens down the street for recording their kidnappings. The odds they aren't are low. Congress must raise hell about this. A masked gang runs our country.

Who they are is newsworthy, but I think people overrate the idea they must be newly recruited Proud Boys or stuff like that as opposed to plain old ICE agents and other assorted feds. They've been given carte blanche to behave much worse but ICE was not filled w/ people too good for this a year ago.

you don’t need to read it, link it, click it, reshare it; you don’t need to do anything ever that supports the NYT if you give a shit about trans people living—or for that matter other gay rights, because this is just the next stage of the project they’ve planned in the open for 10+ years.

A system where men, women, poor folks, people with disabilities, and marginalized voices all have an equal say has more potential to build national prosperity than handing the reins to the same dead-eyed sociopaths who've been killing us and bleeding us dry for generations. Do you agree or disagree?

I've read so many pieces talking about how AI helps in the writing process, but I've never seen recommendations about writing AI helped produce - it would seem like advocates should have examples of novels, essays, poetry, something readable AI has produced
