i remember @akivamcohen.bsky.social misread my (admittedly circuitous) tweet and thought that nick was vic's lawyer for like half a day

i was so focused on the picture i completely ignored the tweet before that. SCATTERED, smothered, covered, chunked. you can't drop the "scattered"; it's part of the call.
i supposed i should give her some credit for getting the sequence correct. my mom still says "scattered covered smothered".

“ability to exceed early expectations”—yeah! i was the same, always. i was lucky enough to learn to read music at an early age, but i would have pieces memorized within days of beginning work on them and then struggle mightily when it came to getting the piece up to tempo. it sucks.

i also suffer from ADHD so perhaps we are not so different! i typically work on several things at the same time so i haven’t been bored in years. i can’t even relate to the concept of boredom until i get stuck somewhere without internet.

because that’s just not how things work in the field. “who did you study with?” is the way of things. teachers claim you, and you claim them, for the prestige of one or the other.

i had a similar thought when i was working on my piano degree. which is to say, i liked all the piano professors and wished i could study with all of them rather than just one. i loved my main prof but if i had gone to other profs for certain things she probably would have been a little hurt.

the daily show writers are appallingly out of touch in this age. what’s the point of bringing jon stewart back if you’re going to out out trump narrative conforming dreck like this?

my roomie is a chemist and she studied german briefly for this reason, but by the time she really got going in the field (early 80s, grad school), english was already dominant.

i realized about 10 years ago that i was starting to forget a lot of the names. occasionally i will spend some time trying to remember them, and i have managed to resurrect a few. others i would really like to forget but i can't because they were too bizarre/evil/whatever.
