I'll always stop my scroll for a picture of a garden. 🤣

Great diagram Emily - well done!

Absolutely - and too often, when trying to go faster, the last thing we want to do is pause.

That's too funny. I'd go with secret sabotage. 🤣

I would take this one step more - sometimes a pause is just what is needed to get to the next gear. (Too bad not too many people drive cars with manual transmissions anymore to get this. 🏁🚗)

Thanks so much! I'd love to see there be more product discussions here!

That's just wrong. 🙈

Being in a workshop without any mention of AI? That's rare these days! 🤣

YES - The no-reply email is a pet peeve of mine too.

If only people used their own products... What a better world it would be!

Great topic Marissa - timing won't work for me, but looking forward to seeing what you do next.

Hi David - I just saw this (from the CTC group). I talk product here (mostly leadership topics). I'd appreciate it if you add me to the starter pack!

Leaders measuring "productivity" metrics of a tech team are putting their focus in the wrong place.

I am an example of a user who was super active on Twitter (pre-Elon) and sadly watched the platform de-evolve into what it is today. The biggest unmet need for me here on BS, is to get the same level of targeted interaction around my post. I took a break, and am trying again here. We shall see!

You are making me want to find an old myspace-era page and plop my name on it as webmaster. 🤣

I agree. Everyone wants to be on the team that wins. And working well together as a team is a big part of that.

I have the opposite problem - I create a very obvious directory structure, every time I have something to store. Except, every type of thing, is in it's own structure, new, each time. So, I have about 5 places for images for my newsletter, etc. Today is the day when I attempt to sort it.

I love your last bullet here David. "Act to help them succeed, not to do their job for them." I agree, when a leader oversteps on delegation, they achieve the opposite of what they want. The team becomes MORE dependent on them, not less.

Absolutely, the amount of context that is necessary for a large codebase is a limiting factor.

Any time you think you can throw something over a wall for someone to maintain, that doesn't work long-term.

Great tip Martin. My favorite tip (and one that I still struggle to follow), is to write first, edit later. It's the perfectionist in me that makes it hard to NOT fix it as I go.

Thanks - I've been starting with some long form content. My newsletter for Saturday is written, and I'm just wrapping up a carousel post to go along with it for LinkedIn. I'm starting with the longer form first, so I can develop it more before posting. I'm looking forward to the shift.

Yeah, commuting after not needing to feels like a colossal waste of time.

I’ve worked from home since 2001 (not a typo). I have long joked that I am unemployable in the standard sense of being an employee. That said, there have been periods where I missed the camaraderie of being in an office setting. I solve that by visiting my consulting client’s offices.

Congrats! What are the biggest things you learned through the process?

I had a brain injury that took me “off the grid” for 3 years. When returning to work and my professional life, building a personal brand was at the top of my priority list. The benefits of doing this were astounding. And, it’s never too late to start.

That should be fun Euan!

Great point - there are so many more meaningful successes to acknowledge beyond “I got promoted” or “I now work at XYZ corp.”

Great point Jason. The entrepreneurs who walk about EVERYTHING that they've built, typically bores investors and customers. Learning to talk about benefits rather than features helps a lot. Talking about what it can do for you, rather than what it does.

My first day of taking my first computer science class at CMU as an undergrad - the professor couldn't get the setup to work - so he yanked the computer out, walked to the side door that was a few stories up, and chucked the computer down to the ground.

Well put Cody.
