Absolutely — by the time my parents got around to needing to guide me thru the thick of it, they'd learned that authoritarianism just breeds strong occult dissent; I'd like to think there was an extra lesson in there for me too.

Wisconsin's got weird alcohol laws... I haven't checked since becoming a parent, but it's long been: a kid can drink as long as their parent/legal guardian serves them, even at 5y; establishments can refuse to allow this tho, if you're not at home.

OMG! in 2 weeks she's doing a few fun summer school classes at the middle school... one of them is "welcome to middle school" and she's excited for that, but it's making me tear up!

At least you can be honest about it; you don't otherwise seem antagonistic to the suffering of others, so it seems related to being forced to do the rehab.
