It certainly wasn’t what Lockheed proposed, nor Boeing and Northrop obviously. It would be the best fit, although you’d probably be better off with a clean-sheet twin. You can’t double the F135 on a fighter. Combat aircraft with 90,000lb thrust are called bombers.
