I am the one true Christian Nationalist monarch and my Jacobite loyalists plot endlessly to restore me to my divinely ordained throne. You didn’t ask for these hot takes but you also didn’t have to pay for them.

Handing people over to be tortured and killed by fundamentalist Muslim regimes is somehow compatible with Christian nationalism. My mind just can’t handle that level of absolute nonsense.

And the problem is top down more often than not. In the name of purging liberalism - some real, some a bogeyman -the academic institutions shed open discussion and academic rigor for really bad and dumbed down propaganda. But the people tolerated that!

Rather than do the work of reading and discerning, they just blanket decided that all media is bad. Now they’re misinformed all the time. Rather than do the hard work of living among the pagans, they pulled back into segregation academies and suburb mega churches and now the salt is not salty.

We just live in such a cynical and corrosive age where the very people who should have held the line on virtue are now - whatever they may be individually - collectively the most organized and toxic part of the republic. And it’s because they allowed petty cynicism to supplant reason.

All politicians lie, therefore I support Stalin. Does that make any sense? It’s an abandonment of reason using the thinnest and most cynical of fig leaf pretexts. The scale and scope of Trump’s lies and more importantly the number of people going along with them is something different.

You absolutely could not have convinced me that the evangelical right would get behind him and make him the face of the movement

If he’s catechizing the faithful M-F he doesn’t have to have direct influence.

Have you tried VII? I bought Total War Pharoah instead because of the very mixed reviews to Civ VII.

I would be extremely confused if one of the most visible members of my small denomination exclusively promoted SBTS leaders and thinkers and ignored the very fine folks at RTS or elsewhere in the PCA. Erick promotes Mohler, Walker etc 95x more than he does any actual Presbyterian.

Like what is the purpose? Go be EPC or OPC, we have enough pseudo-Baptists. It seems to exist literally so a certain kind of southern Baptist can hold theological pretensions over the non-educated Baptists.
comment in response to post
The fact that Erick Erickson exists and claims to be a Presbyterian when in fact he is very much a Southern Baptist is enough for me to just put a giant question mark on the PCA altogether.

I’m aware that I’m reacting against my extremely negative childhood as a southern Baptist foster kid but I’ve run almost all the way to Rome in response to SBC culture. I stopped in Canterbury but man does the Tiber look appealing sometimes.

I guess I can say that they seem to not have nearly the scandals that Reformed Baptists do from Driscoll to Piper etc.
comment in response to post
My experience with the PCA is that it is a halfway house for Southern Baptists who discovered a tiny bit of theology but want to remain culturally Baptist so there’s no real difference. I have so little experience with non halfway house institutions that I can’t comment on it.

When I am restored to my rights I shall appoint you as the head of the Social Media Star Chamber with a mandate to civilize internet discourse.

Are you suggesting that either pure Congregationalism or the episcopacy are better models than absolute rule by senior pastor?!

The question then becomes if the average Fox News watcher suddenly possessed this information would it make him more or less favorable in their estimation?

He doesn’t need the people or elections anymore Atticus. Step 1, declare fraud in 2026 elections, Step 2 rely on the right wing bubble chamber and religious orgs to parrot those claims, Step 3 refuse to seat the winners. It’ll be a constitutional crisis that will justify whatever.

It certainly puts me in a bad spot as the last of the Stuarts.

I don’t think there has ever been a time in Western Civilization where being proudly monolingual was a thing. Almost anyone who was anyone spoke their native tongue plus, depending on the era, Greek, Latin, French, etc.

What else could we expect the American electorate to elect at this point?

Sadly there are no protests out here in the boonies but maybe I’ll drive down to Atlanta.

Charlie what do we do in 2026 when he declares widespread fraud in the midterms and uses ICE or whoever to refuse to seat the new members of Congress?
comment in response to post
He’s more popular than ever here in NWGA.
comment in response to post
I honestly don’t know what anyone could do in that scenario.
comment in response to post
I hope he does change, but I also hope his business fails. Is that fair?
comment in response to post
However, I do fear a scenario where there’s a midterm reckoning for Republicans in 2026, Donald refuses to acknowledge the results and calls it fraud and then uses executive branch personnel to refuse to seat the new members of congress. What could anyone do to stop that?
comment in response to post
I would bet at least half of the Republican congressmen think it’s funny.

It’s an affront to the dignity of the office of Senate and I’m shocked his security detail didn’t use force to stop it. Those men should be charged with assaulting a United States senator.
comment in response to post
If I’m on Padilla’s security team I’m pulling a gun on these guys. You can’t manhandle an American senator like that. “He was a consul of Rome!!”

You are a loyal Jacobite and you know it! No king but James!

If these people went to church they’d be the ones angry about the carpet colors

So non use correlates with left leaning ideology but use predicts nothing? Sounds like they’re pulling punches
comment in response to post
Well I think you can get the point even better if you replace “Southern Bourbons” with “slaveholders” in his whole quote

And what will evangelicals do when he starts to do these things? I’m still sad about it even if no longer shocked.

Monkey’s paw curls, the timeline is forever altered. Popehat becomes second American pope in time.
