I'll never understand how this alone didn't make him lose everything, it's just too absurd.

There just is no proctologist in the world skilled enough to deal with this

A constant thought of mine.

For-profit prison labor probably.

Very much appreciate including my question as I only have a shallow understanding of this system and am appreciate learning from the experts. Extremely informative article. My thanks to Ms Nofil for taking the time to answer so thoroughly.

Rather: "the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice"

I fully agree. I've always liked 'Imagine' and a few other songs by him. Although it's harder and harder to enjoy them exactly because of what a dick he was.

Algorithms being used, well, not for anything actually good.

I just don't think it can be said enough how much of this is Russian propaganda/tactics/infiltration. Khrushchev's prediction come to fruition, but it's the oligarchs, not the communists, who brought it to bear.

It's surreal to have the same people who made 'New York City? Get a rope" a virtual mantra make that guy their cult leader. They all want their own golden toilets more than anything else, I guess.

So racy with the gelatin grappling...

Unrelated but thank you for consistently bringing corrupt cops to light.

My confidence is at an all-time low. I was going to say "couldn't get lower", but let's be realistic.

I'd also have expected better. That's a high ISO but even then super grainy. Maybe it's just been too long since I shot B&W. Exposure? Light conditions? While I'm no expert I tend to think light leak of some sort with that fogginess, although old film can be quite finicky as you said.

Thank you, Lennon was a self-righteous hypocrite and frankly, I'm sick of his face. Screw this guy. There are better songs, better musicians, and better people.

Well, I guess she massively underestimated how dumb we all are, I know I sure as hell did.

Well, this is bad. And I'm sorry, but Charlie Brown waving the US flag is his avatar and he actually used that emoticon? This is all extremely dystopian in a rather new and unexciting way.

Aww, thank you. Made my day to see my sweet buddy on my feed here. He was so special. Eliot the cat is napping with hubby right now on this rainy day. She loved Kirbs so much, too.

What a perfect morning. My puggle Kirby here (a beautiful buddy, over the rainbow now but I'm so glad I had him in my life).

You guys deserve the recognition, such outstanding journalism. I heard of you through my sister who said that Ashton Pittman wrote the best news article she'd ever read. And that's after probably 40 years of reading news.

"The Vicksburg Troubles", what a way to describe that.

Speaking sooth.

Anyway, thanks for the conversation!

I've been thinking about what you said about this mentality infiltrating local news and I'm realizing more and more how much local matters in the big picture. Local elections, schools, journalism, etc. It's so easy to focus on national issues, but it can lead to neglecting our own communities.

In all seriousness though, we do need a dislike button. I do not understand its absence.

I could not agree more. I think many start with good intentions, but it's an uphill battle to get and keep a serious audience, so people end up selling their souls. At first (maybe) for an idealistic greater good, but often it devolves into self-aggrandizement and chasing the dopamine hit of 'likes'
comment in response to post
Right? It's such a game to these types. Scoops? Watching the circus around reporting Supreme Court rulings is unreal. It's like they truly don't know how foolish they are being.
comment in response to post
I've become convinced independent journalism is our only hope in that department.
comment in response to post
And definitely a facepalm one.

Maybe 24 hr "news" stations were inevitable, but I've always felt Ted Turner deserves some of the blame here in terms of turning news into entertainment. Chasing ratings, chasing likes, chasing views... I get it from a certain perspective but it usually adversely affects the content.
comment in response to post
I haven't been able to watch these sort of talking head shows for over a decade because of this precisely -- it's entertainment 'news' and it's intolerable, like a non-stop opinion column presented by largely self-important people. It's all too calculated.
comment in response to post
People don't understand how easy it is to become disenfranchised. My elderly veteran father couldn't get a TX ID when I had to move him here, because the last 8 years of his life he was largely house-bound.

We really need to learn how to play the long game like the GOP has been for decades. This is a generation-long battle at this point as far as I'm concerned. We need to figure out how to convert the fair-weather Democrats to the long haul battle. No easy feat when so many expect instant results.

I live for dry headlines. Talk about speaking my language. And wowzers to that summary.

This sort of news is my least favorite thing about the 'like/heart' button. I don't like it, it actually breaks my heart.
comment in response to post
The road to hell is definitely paved with tolerating intolerance like this.
comment in response to post
Would that I had a thousand 'likes'. What these amazing people did, everyone should know.

Fundamentalists of any flavor in a nutshell.

I still feel like the whole "if you release this report I'll tell everyone about all the other sexual assault by Republicans" from mtg + Gaetz stepping down after "good convos with senators" has not gotten enough attention...
comment in response to post
There is also an insidious attack on hormonal birth control in the vein of the anti-vax movement as mentioned in this article. www.vice.com/en/article/p...
comment in response to post
I haven't really seen joy so much as "I can't be bothered to find any sympathy" and "I'm more horrified by all the people hurt and killed by UHC's 30%+ denial rate." There's an important difference.

Brevity in writing isn't my forte! Yes, mine is of course a broad question that affects all federal prisoners, but I'm thinking of this especially in light of the planned mass deportation (and presumably incarceration), and how private prisons and profits will play into this.
comment in response to post
This is probably addressed in the last chapter, and it's not an area I'm well-versed in, but my understanding is that the Obama administration tried to get rid of for-profit prisons on a federal level. Has that work been completely undone? Is there any bipartisan support for eliminating these?
comment in response to post
I'm so happy for you, that's a great accomplishment!
comment in response to post
Yes, exactly this. Our tenuously purple Texas city managed to keep the crazies off the school board and city council this year. That's an important win. People don't realize this is exactly the sort of long game the GOP have been playing. Local elections matter so much.

This is also about demonizing hormonal birth control.
