To be very clear, funding is on a reimbursement system, so you need to be able to wait until the grant is disbursed *after* the conference.

but funding exists that should mostly cover airfare, registration, and hotel fees (depending where you're coming from). The conference is in March in Vancouver, Canada. Deadline is coming, please reach out if interested.

It's definitely amazing, and the scale is just....!!!!!!. Lots of celebrity giving in Korea, but this level and his personal involvement make it quite a special situation. Using the devotion of fans for a great cause!!!

If UNESCO certifies #Taekwondo for either country it will make a mockery of UNESCO certification. TKD is a recent invention based on Japanese martial arts. The name TKD dates from the 1960s. There is zero evidence that pre-modern martial arts in Korea had *any* overlap with TKD practices.

references tradition in a way that particularly when created for international viewership plays with exotification or even self-orientalization, which always makes me feel a bit conflicted. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xOn...

1. You aren't going to be able to access your voicemail if you can't just call a trusted friend.
2. No one listens to voicemail or even uses it. I'd have to learn how to do it first. In 4 years having this phone number/plan I never have gotten a voice mail, either.

these people are freaking monsters. they know they're monsters, so they're afraid we'll expose who they are.

Ahhh, on a second listen there is Korean is 7 places (which are repeated in the case of the chorus and post-chorus), but I'd like at least a few full sentences (not just phrases and vocabulary).

super thanks! I thought the two parts of the presentation needed to be better connected by them, but otherwise it was really great work.

The name is dumb, but the fact that I get 1.5 m won to go to conferences in a year, while SNU profs get 5m is pretty freaking unfair. Structurally regional universities are kept second rate because I teach 2 more classes a year and have larger classes, and get less funding.

It's such a slipperly slope, censorship. Like actually trying to prevent fake news is great. BUT if it's not fake, just what we don't want people to know, then that's a different issue. I heard that high school kids in Finland have a course in media analysis. Everyone should.

Yes, but much of the consumption they do when official channels are banned ends up not benefiting the idols. People who use a VPN (illegal in China) and pay for the content with a card (risky, if it's a Chinese card) from foreign platforms are going to be less common
