Harvard today, your institution tomorrow. It's all part of the Project 2025 plan to destroy high education in America. All leading US universities depend on federal funding and tuition dollars from international students. They severely curtailed the former. Now they're eliminating the latter.

So wrong 🧪⚛️👩‍🔬

🧪🤓 Data update: NSF has now posted its own official list of terminated grants: www.nsf.gov/updates-on-p... It reaffirms the accuracy of the work that @noamross.net and @scott-delaney.bsky.social have already done here: grant-watch.us/nsf-data.html Next post on the differences...

ISO advice for current visiting assistant prof in math (me) What sort of grants are available/worth applying for to stay semi-competitive? I know right now grants are getting dissolved left and right so all that is up in the air anyway, but I want to know what is a reasonable timeline for applying

The state of Georgia is using the body of a brain-dead woman as an incubator. Because she was 9 weeks pregnant when she died, and their abortion ban is from about 6 weeks, they are sustaining her on life support, without input from her family, until 32 weeks of gestation. A true dystopian nightmare.

Here is my conclusion slide for the limerick challenge at #SIAMDS25 #snowbird To prevent fecal impaction IPANs signal colon contraction But when there's no stool ICCs are the tool To excite a muscle reaction

Today in Congress, HHS Sec RFK Jr insisted that "We are not withholding money for lifesaving research." The @nytimes.com described the interaction as a "clash". Yes, between facts and talking points. Fact: HHS is withholding money for lifesaving research. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/14/u...

NSF grant terminations are disproportionately affecting underrepresented scientists. 58% of canceled grants have women PIs, despite making up only 34% of awards. 17% of canceled grants have Black PIs (versus 4% of the pool). Hispanic and disabled PIs are twice as likely to have NSF grants canceled.

There has been a little competition with limericks at #SIAMDS25. Bard is a Limerick king and here is his after his talk (sorry for the poor video). Hope mine today can stack up. Come to MS157 at 1:30! #Snowbird #NationalLimerickDay

My talk at #SIAMDS25 is tomorrow! Session MS157 1:30pm. Come learn about dynamics in the colon!

Wonderful and entertaining talk by Prof Bard Ermentrout who gave the Jürgen Moser Lecture at #SIAMDS25 last night! I Have definitely enjoyed my time working with him these last 5 years and have learned so much from him!

Made it to Denver for #SIAMDS25!! Last time I was here was the 2020 #APSMarchMeeting. Hope nothing historical happens this time!

Someone recommended color coding so that it was clearer where everything goes because it is a bit cramped. I think this does look nicer. I hope I don't have any mistakes in it... #math #teachingMath #MathEducation #calculus

Feedback on my study guide for my students? I have adopted it from people.tamu.edu/~kahlig//152... which is shared in our department, but I didn't like the look of it and wanted it to have more info. I also have called ratio test AGAIN "your favorite convergence test's favorite convergence test"

#APSglobalSummit25 #APSMarch25 happening today!

Tonight at #APSSummit25, I am running APR-EV10:1: Mental Health Roundtable in Marriot Marquis Northwest at 6:00pm-7:00pm! Many of us are feeling a lot of anxiety and depression especially now with the state of the world. Come find support and community! #AcademicMentalHealth

I'm speaking in MAR-S58: Collective Behaviors in Biology II Thursday at 2:06pm on modeling dynamics from data on (transgenic) mice colons! Come on by @aps-dbio.bsky.social @aps-gsnp.bsky.social #ProtectTransgenicMice (but also while we're here #ProtectTransPeople )

At @apsphysics.bsky.social this week! Let me know if you are around!

Millie has been doing well and is basically back to her regular self but shaved. But honestly I feel like she's even more attached to me than before.

I'm sorry that I haven't seemed angry about the state of everything. I definitely am. I just can't keep up with each new horror every day as well as just staying afloat in my regular day to day work and being hit with other life complications (health, cat health, finances...)

I need to figure out what is a reasonable number of conferences/and how long I can attend these conferences as a VAP. Because I do not have start up funds, I am limited with travel funding I have. This has been about $1500 for a year. Which is probably 1 conference (perhaps not a full conference).

Been feeling down/in a rut so I will try this to help. 1 like = 1 thing I love
