Hosting on DigitalOcean will only run you like $5-10 a month, and you can select a pre-configured droplet to make the process simpler to setup. Takes about a half hour or so total for someone not totally unfamiliar. I'm in it to just have my own instance so I can really own my data

Eh I’d say the situations are pretty different. Trillian brought together completely different messengers from different companies. What we have here now is all Bluesky. I just want a separate photo account that isn’t polluted with my other Bluesky content.
