Yup it seemed a bit odd. I'm not a HP nerd, so I've not analysed each scene, but the later films definitely seemed darker than the books too.

If I can dumb it down for a moment, I think that the Harry Potter films were great for what they were. They missed bits of the books, but you got the gist. LOTR, not so much.
As for Tom Cruise version of Jack Reacher.... don't get me started on that!

Is there a Socialist party? I certainly don't want him teaming up with Reform.
If there is, then them.
comment in response to

Sadly, I think you and I both know it's the only way Reform would be able to get any meaningful power.
comment in response to

I'm a centrist. I certainly am not comfortable with either the Reform or Trump attitude to ethnic cleansing that they're proposing.
And I certainly don't think that the Lib Dems are socialist. The Greens have an agenda. Again, it's not necessarily socialist.

If your friend asked for a critique, they clearly felt they could trust you to do that.
Even if it's not your type of music, you could have given them some pointers.

3 small European nations - Malta, Andorra and San Marino don't allow abortion.
But yeah, generally, we let women control their own bodies, rather than a bunch of old men.

You should meet my Spaniel!

That's not true.

My Grandfather was Canadian. That means my Father wasn't white British then.
And people of Canada, particularly Nova Scotia originated from..........?

I'm OK with this. Provided both have insurance (Horses do).
Mate of mine was without his car for over 12 months because of a lack of parts (Fiat 124). Cyclist rode into his car and triggered the bump sensors and dented bonnet.
Have a guess whose insurance paid out? And who lost their no claims?

I said this above. Clearly your gym got the memo and good for them!

Alternatively, the gym could put a sign up saying "Please take calls outside the main gym".
Or are we all bringing 2000 style iPods with us?

Yeah, I'm not normally a fan of the "This didn't happen", but I'm with you here.

So what sets those apart from regular tunes is that they're both rock operas in a single tune. See also Stairway to Heaven (no, it's not easy to pick the words out) etc.
They're also ridiculously long.

This is correct. A European Perch is effectively a Bass.

I don't work in anything like, but I actually find coffee really interesting. There's a "You're dead to me" podcast about the history of coffee.
Fascinating. And dull at the same time.

Out of interest, why the Seine? It's a long way to travel from the UK in 1431. I didn't think we ever really got on with the French?

No, but seeing as Birmingham is nearer and has a similar population, they must be thinking "What about us?"

This. My company went from having 600 people on site to a couple of dozen.
They cut down to around 100 desks in groups, so that teams could sit together and most were unused.
I think we're doing to 50 and a couple of large collaboration rooms. 3 floors shut down. Massive savings.

People think that care home owners are millionaires.
They probably were when they bought one 🤣
comment in response to
post
You'd be surprised. Most care homes I've come across have a number of people placed there by social services. They don't pay what it actually costs, so those who can afford to pay are paying for those who can't.
Most care homes are on the brink of going bust.
comment in response to

You'd be surprised. Most nurseries, like most care homes, are broke.

IT Techs have been using Google for years to fix their issues.
The difference between a tech and a non-tech is that the tech knows what to Google and how to decipher the answers given!

I may or may not have done this with my first house purchase many, many years ago before these things were outlawed.

First Time Buyers can be a pain in the arse too (I was one once, but I listened to advice from my folks, rather than ask stupid questions). I've seen on forums and stuff absolutely ridiculous questions.
As you say, the sellers maybe just wanted an easy time and a quick sale.

I was talking to someone about what's going on in New Jersey. Literally, go over the NY state line and forget about ever having a life.
Council tax (equivalent of your property tax) is generally around £1500-£2000 for most people here. How they're calculated can be complicated.
comment in response to

If the buyer said "I have an offer in principle for £500k and some money my folks are going to give me", that'll do for the Estate Agent up to around £600k before they'll start getting sniffy.

You needed a mortgage. They didn't.
Also, did it already have a tenant? Could have been that the Landlord bought it with a tenant in situ, making it much easier for the seller to not have to muck around with S21s and eviction.

Midi is nonsense when it comes to using with computers, though.
Apple have built their hardware so that it's much more efficient at talking directly to the interface.
To get the same lack of lag with Intel or AMD, you need to be using a Xeon processor. My M1 Macbook shits on them.

It's a weird one. I can wear pretty much what I want to work. However, as I mostly work from home and slop about in t-shirts and trackies, when I go in the office, I wear a shirt/polo, chinos and shoes. Never a suit.
Why not go for smart casual and meet in the middle?

But if I want to rent, it means I need a BTL landlord.
I don't think you're getting this.
You seem to misunderstand capitalism and free markets.
But feel free to go to China or North Korea.

And as I said before, for many people, particularly those immigrants who are holding up the NHS and care homes, they absolutely rely on the rental market.
As did I for a few years.

And if house prices go down, as happened to one Landlord I know recently, they lose everything.
Few Landlords have repayment mortgages.
comment in response to

No, I couldn’t afford to save because I was a single father and my rent was miles less than the equivalent mortgage, even if I could have saved the deposit.
And saving was not on my priority list. Bringing up my kids was.
Not everyone wants to buy.
