Yes, but without having to compensate the shareholders. I think the current route is to make operations less attractive so private companies don't renew their contracts

This is often how the BBC leaves itself open to false equivalents. You could have a scientist on question time and debating Julie Hartless Brewer (no science background) presenting a counter argument. Balance is not what the BBC should be about, or any objective news provider.

Not sure he's naive. I'm fairly sure the government know they're aim is damage limitation. Unfortunately a bit of game playing going on. Probably not wise to publicly announce American standards are sh!te, even though inwardly, the PM may think it.

Depends if we cave in on standards. Particularly those involving food production, workers rights etc. Not sure there are signs of concessions on those things from UK government.
