Let me help you create your B.E.T.A. plan, aka one where you're NOT striving for perfection in your studies.
The goal is PROGRESS (so you can finally use what you're learning)!

It literally doesn't make any sense, and is why, after seeing so many people getting to that mid year slump of "am I even making progress???"...
I decided to put my study plan & schedule creation workshops on sale. 💜

The key when watching your fav shows and movies is to NOT take the fun out of it to make it "feel" more like "studying".
It IS study and practice. But if it's not aligned with what you're actually trying to achieve?
...Add in something else too so that it IS actually helping you reach your goals 😜

4) At a more advanced level? Try predicting what the characters might say outloud before they actually do.
Anything from a word they might use, a phrase they might say, etc.

3) Want to add more fun? Shadow a few of the words or phrases your hear repeatedly in the same tone and intonation.
Repeat a scene again if you find the delivery especially fun and try your best impression!

2) Hear a word said over and over throughout the show/movie? Look it up in your fav dictionary and add it to a separate deck for drama or movies.
And ignore the desire to look up ALL the words. It's unnecessary.

And if you feel comfortable, change the subtitles into another language, or the same one as the actual content while you listen.
Now you're working on more skills at the same time!

1) Using subtitles in your native language? Every once in a while, replay a scene or two and don't look at the screen to see what you can pick up.
It doesn't have to be all the time, but I'm sure you've looked away from the screen once or twice.

I can even help to motivate you to show up regularly and study and practice in review regularly.
But you have to do the active work.
And then at some point, it becomes less about the apps & more about the lived experiences.
But there are some that do a better job of holistic learning than others
comment in response to

Because we're not learning a language to be able to use apps better. We're learning languages to use them in our day-to-day life.
And it's impossible for an app to help you to do that.
It will give you practice for using the info you've learned. Or it will teach you the info you don't know.

I definitely understand the desire though, because earlier on in my own studies, I constantly search for the holy Grail of language learning.
But if you are regularly using the languages you want to learn in ways you want to use them, that's what no app can replicate but can support you with, 100%

There will never be a one-stop-shop app for learning because we have to do the work😅
Even if the app gives you all the tips & info you need, you still have to use what you learn that will never happen with a single app because the app is not YOU.
But any app can be your main resource, for sure!

This isn’t about pushing harder.
It’s about creating a rhythm you can return to again and again.
Because fluency isn’t built in one perfect week.
It’s built in the return, and in the strategic actions you take

Inside Fluency Mastery Lab PRO, we do things differently.
No rigid routines.
No shame spirals.
No starting over every time life happens.
Just structure that flexes.
Support that grounds you.
And strategy that actually works.

What if the real problem isn’t your consistency, but the fact that your study plan doesn’t bend with your energy?
What if you stopped forcing the streak… and started building a rhythm that fits your actual life?
That’s where real progress begins.

I see it all the time.
Someone goes a few days (or weeks) without studying… and immediately spirals into shame.
“Ugh, I messed up again.”
“I always lose momentum.”
“Maybe I’m just not meant to be fluent.”
But falling off isn’t failure.
It’s feedback.

So when it comes to ones like memrise, I don't say it's the best or worst app. Instead, I always talk about how to use them to it's max potential.
And honestly, I haven't used it in years & I KNOW it's changed a LOT, so I probably have to go back into it again for a bit to make informed reviews 🤣

Thank you for this! I was thinking less about ranking apps because it's already so much of that out there and that's not how I ever teach using language learning resources.
Instead, I always say that you can learn languages from pretty much any resource, but it's about HOW you use it.
