Makes sense. Very cowardly that one.
I’m just in favor of making evil people look as unappealing as possible.

I feel like there’s gotta be a sour face headshot of Kean to use instead.

Hate on the pressure to do gear and look lean all the time. Hate on the potential to induce dysmorphia. But don’t mischaracterize what strength and capability are.

But they are? How many random folks off the street are gonna bench 1x, squat 1.5x, and deadlift 2x their bodyweight when most of the folks you see on stage can? And they can get up to a performance optimized bodyweight in a couple weeks tops?

Maybe you don’t, but I do, and the narrative around ‘functional strength’ has been used to mislead a lot of folks who don’t understand human physiology into paying for programs and doing utterly silly things.

‘Type of muscle’ isn’t a thing that can cause hormonal problems. Neither is total muscle mass without pharmacological intervention. It’s too low fat mass that causes hormone problems in bodybuilders.

And the reason I focus on ‘functional’ is because it’s a word many folks use to say weight training isn’t optimal, when it’s one of the safest and most measurable ways to increase strength. And all strength is functional, period.

That sounds silly to me, because you put a layperson up against Cbum and the layperson will lose in pretty much every physical test. Stage lean is also more optimal for lots of body weight/agility work over strongmen. Still very functional. Just optimized differently.

I agree with most of what you’re expressing here, but the use of the word functional rankles. All muscle is functional. Strong man is strength at all costs. Bodybuilders are strong but specialized for mass while lean. The cost of stage lean being stamina and hormonal stability is the real issue.

Oh yea, but I still have that moment of ‘If they actually call that a major I might burst into flames’

Eh. I would’ve gotten it if they called a minor, but I just think it’s unfortunate that he was injured by what looked to me like a minor collision 🤷🏼♂️

I swear, Markstrom is just lunging at everything right now. Mediocre rebound control. He’s making his job a lot harder than it needs to be.
