I need to read this book! I’m about to leave my Narcissist husband of 20 yrs of emotional, financial and sexual abuse. HE wanted to be our marriage counselor, my personal trainer (so I could be his “trophy wife”) and last month he told me he’s drawing up a divorce agreement for us. Lol. No way.

I literally just blocked her! The “fed up mom” is probably either a Russian troll or some 20 yr old MAGA incel living in his mom’s basement listening to Joe Rogan. These people are exhausting. As an RN, they annoy me b/c they go to the hospital but don’t want science-based medicine. What a waste.

Don’t forget to add: me telling them my life story, talking too long and not noticing—until they start looking around for help and taking steps backwards away from me—followed by 4 days of me feeling guilty and stupid about it! Lol

Just don’t let them freak you out! I’m sure your labs will come back fine! I’m glad you talked to an MD to help. Nurses don’t get a thimble of the education that doctors get so always ask the docs! ❤️

Glad to help! A simple blood test for CK/CPK and a BMP will will check your kidney function and make sure everything is good! I love Reddit but in the future I would only go to r/AskDocs and only take advice from verified health professionals on that subreddit.

It’s the breakdown of muscle proteins that gets into your blood and affects your kidneys ability to function. Usually the urine looks dark like Coke.

I’m an RN. Rhabdo typically presents when a patient either (1) exercised EXTREMELY hard (ie marathon, extreme bodybuilding) and wasn’t hydrated or (2) an elderly person fell and was on the floor overweight before someone found them. Their Creatine phosphokinase (CPK) > 1,000 U/L(17.0 ukat/L).

For me it’s “You Do,” “Nothing is good enough,” “Satellite,” “How am I different?” … well, the entire album is amazing.

I love the “Formalizer” tool! I put what I want to say and it makes it appropriate.

That last scene where he’s just staring… I can’t forget that scene and I haven’t seen that movie for 30 years.

Remember that it’s the Emergency Department and there’s probably patients there that are near death. The doctor will ask you a 5th time. This is to provide you with safe treatment and to get more details than what is in the chart. Staff sees patients closer to death first, then the stable patients.

I’ve worked with too many nurses who just graduated & are already working on their NP. I have 10 years of ICU/ER Nursing experience and would not consider becoming an NP until they actually educate us! We don’t know what we don’t know. We didn’t go to medical school. Don’t expect us to be doctors!
comment in response to

The curriculum in many of these programs is fluff and not focused enough on pharmacology and science. Instead, they teach “leadership.”
In the end, the patients and the NPs don’t benefit. Only Administrators and Diploma mills benefit.

The nurses who are ill-prepared when they graduate and are set up to fail—and risk their license to potential liability issues. Too many programs fail the NP students, who are expected to perform as doctors without the training. Hospital admins love them b/c the cost is less (outcomes are worse).

In the US, we need to better regulate the NP programs so they actually provide a solid foundation for the nurses who graduate. There are too many NP diploma mills that don’t require any minimum RN experience or enough clinical training to the nurses who are going through the program.

It’s actually what sparked my initial interest in A&P and pharmacology. I worked in a Peds ICU as an RN for years.

As someone hospitalized with Histoplasmosis for > week in 1989 (at 12 years old), I agree! I was on IV amphotericin B, which worked great but had side effects. (I was told for years after that I had “scar tissue” on my CXR.)
These days UHC would tell me to just take a hot shower and “shake it off.”

Silly cartoons about the kidneys?!?!?! Would Dr. Glaucomflecken’s Nephrologist approve? 😆
“Is kidney function a joke to you?!”

I have a home unit for NB-UVB phototherapy-but I am an extremely fair skinned redhead (think Conan OBrien) and am increasing my risk of skin cancers. It’s a balancing act. Also, I go through lots of Clobetasol but it isn’t working well lately so perhaps methotrexate will be next.

It’s great to see new research on #CTCL. I have the Folliculotropic subtype of mycosis fungoides. Luckily, I have stayed in stage 1A since my diagnosis 3 years ago. But it is a frustrating and uncomfortable cancer. Hopefully this will add much needed data that can be used to develop treatments.

The sound of utensils clinking together when placed in the drawer. 🍴 I literally have to wear earplugs or earbuds when I unload the dishwasher!
Touching a microfiber towel—especially if my hands are dry.
Those damn Burger King commercials with the guy singing “BK have it your way” off key.

Think whatever you want but ADHD is a disability. I also have red hair. Although I have to slather on sunscreen, my red hair hasn’t affected my mental health, self esteem, marriage, jobs and friendships. I’m in my late 40s, diagnosed at 18 years old and medicated for about 20 yrs.

I mostly blame Florence Nightingale for setting us up to be undervalued. She
1)excluded men “a woman’s role”
2)emphasized obedience, modesty
3)discouraged assertiveness, or challenging orders
3)looked down on non-white & working-class Nurses & prefer white “ladies” from middle/upper class

We need more books like this! This should be required for Nursing school. I got so sick of Nightingale-centric history in Nursing school. Nightingale was definitely pivotal to sanitation in hospitals; however, she excluded women of color and ALL men. The demographics of nurses today reflects this.

RN here: It’s a “Mac” (short for Macintosh) blade that’s a curved laryngoscope used to intubate patients. The Mac follows the tongue and lifts the epiglottis, so the doctor/RT has a good visual of where to put the breathing tube. (So the tube doesn’t go in your stomach accidentally.) 🫁

I’m sorry you are going through this. I’m sure they will take good care of her and help her get stronger!
Remember that being a caregiver for family is hard —physically and emotionally—and you need to take care of yourself so you can be there for her too.

This is quite interesting work and great see new clinical research on CTCL! I am an RN who became interested in learning more about it after my own diagnosis of CTCL-FMF a few years ago. Thank you for all the hard work you do!

Hi! I was diagnosed in 2023 with CTCL- FMF thanks to pathologists like you and finally convincing my dermatologist to do punch biopsies of my “persistent eczema.” I’m an RN and basically pestered into getting the biopsy after 3 years.
What you do is incredible and thank you!

I can’t wait to read the new CMS guidelines: All Post-Op patients can be discharged home the same day with starter pack of colloidal silver and some green coffee extract mixed with raspberry ketones for faster healing!
