Yes, homeschooling seems to cultivate in parents a very strong self-image as this *exceptional* educator who is going above and beyond, so anything that challenges that immediately causes cognitive dissonance

Honestly I don't care for these sorts of jokes, as it really does feel at the expense of the *victims* of homeschooling and not in support of us.
"Hahaha, look at the freaks who had no choice in this! Aren't they dumb thanks to their parents isolating them?"

She bragged about how she doesn't get her kid toys and they play with the dirt!?

Honestly I'd take an annoyingly centrist Dem over her, she's a genuine crank with completely off the wall opinions, as her bizarre interview on Ezra Klein's podcast showed: she bragged about how she doesn't get trash pickup, rambled about Speed Queen washing machines, it was weird as hell

My favorite part is people insisting she "has to try to win" so she can't afford to advocate for true progressive policies
No, she's a bizarre crank who looks down on the very people in Clark County who made her election possible, she is the worst

Yeah, that plus just a general control issue where the parents cannot tolerate anyone in their family being outside of the surveillance and indoctrination is most likely what's happening

Also, the subreddit for homeschoolers has so many depressing posts where parents will admit their kids are drastically behind their grade levels in multiple subjects, and dozens of other parents will reassure them it doesn't matter
The entire practice of homeschooling is in dire need of oversight

"Did you make your kids help in the kitchen? Well guess what, using measuring cups or whatever counts as math now, so that takes care of that lesson for today!"

Also homeschooling parents are *notorious* for those in the know (such as alumni like me) for constantly defining success or goals in any subject down out of pure convenience, even beyond indoctrination into fundamentalism

Are you gonna spend even a second doing anything but photo ops or grandstanding on your niche fixations while a tyrant destroys the Republic? Why the hell should I re-elect you?

Do you still support the thugs at ICE and their lawlessness, assaulting and abducting US citizens while refusing to show their faces?

As soon as you use the term “replacement” you’ve lost the debate because you’ve allowed that the framing is correct. It is not.

You know what else fails to meet the moment?
Every goddamn moment of your miserable tenure in our Congressional district seat, you fascist enabler

You are utterly useless for the moment and your myopia in this crisis will earn you nothing but contempt from any side or party

"She writes that the book is neither progressive nor conservative" ah so conservative but unbearably pretentious and twee about it, got it

If you wait until all the fires are out to live your life and tend to yourself, you will only die exhausted, and the world will burn on.

“How dare you do laundry while the world is burning?”
Let me let you in on a little secret about human history: some part of the world has been burning since humans discovered fire. The world does nothing but threaten to end.
Is it worse in some places and times than in others? Absolutely.

As someone with a ton of religious trauma from my Christian upbringing, these articles quickly brushing past the many, many abuses and scandals of American Christianity as a possible justified cause in people never wanting *any* version of Christianity is a revealing oversight...

there's a sharp dividing line in alternative medicine between people - the majority, including practitioners - who see it as a supplement to conventional medicine and the ones who actively discourage the use of conventional medicine. That second group are very, very dangerous in multiple ways.

imagine watching a small child struggle to breathe because of a measles infection and then going on your radio show to explain that the “human body was designed to fight measles” with the clear implication that if you die your body just wasn’t good enough.
