Which we also struggle with. I'd rather our academy was elite and that be where the value is found, but that'll take another 5-10 years I reckon.

No I know, but you'd imagine that has to be the goal in the mid-term. I can't see any other way we sustainably grow to the level we're aiming for otherwise.

But we can't buy a squad of CL-ready players, the finances are not feasible nor sustainable. If PSR is dropped, then of course, buy whoever you can to fit the immediate profile, but we can't do that right now. Howe has worked a miracle with this squad, an injury or two more and we finish mid-table.

But again I'm not saying adopt their model and nothing else, I'm saying there should be a middle ground surely in which we can buy Isaks and Tonalis whilst also strengthening our bench with youth, which could eventually turn a huge profit if we're lucky.

Yes they do, but we also need to think like this in a world dominated by PSR. We are not closing the financial gap on the big six for a very long time, buying low and selling high whilst also adding a prime target every now and then (which Brighton don't do) sounds sustainable.

We're in a very unique space as a club in which we probably should be able to go out and spend to bridge that wide gap, but can't. So maybe we do have to adapt our strategy a little? Who knows

No, I do get that entirely. My point is that it wouldn't take too big a shift, you would hope, to try and adopt a hybrid of both strategies in order to navigate a market in which we're on the wrong end of PSR. At the moment all we seem able to do is spend big one year, then skip a few windows

We're talking about a team that finished 5 points behind us.

Which is the reason I posed the question. We don't have big 6 income, nor will we be anywhere near their commercial revenue for at least 20 years, so we need to find an alternative way to bridge that financial gap. Buying low and selling high (the Brighton method) seems to be the only way.

It's not just the starting 11 though, there's no reason we shouldn't be looking to improve the overall squad with some youth that we could give game time to and sell on for profit if needs be. Our bench is consistently weak with supposed 'experienced' players as it is.

Indy Kalia is legitimately less trustworthy than Burnsie 😂

Aren't we pretty bad without him in the squad? I feel like whenever he's injured we drop several levels, may be wrong. Either way, cannot think of many players with a similar profile if have to replace him, unless the intention is to completely change our play style.

But surely we could do a bit of this alongside our current scouting model? It's not a replacement of our current model, it's an addition to it.

But we need to don't we? As in if we don't then PSR will always strangle us, feel like youth players are the highest trading commodity these days (which is horrid to say). Feel like we can ill afford another three windows of little activity without getting left behind by the usual clubs.

Yeah I agree with that, would just love us to find a way to bridge that gap and also give youth a chance. Hopefully this window sees a few sort of unproven-yet-ready types who can cover for cup games and injuries etc. Don't want to lose players like Miley due to lack of opportunities.
