To keep The Xylom going for the next seven years, here are two things we're asking: • Take part in our Annual Audience Survey to help us understand who you are, why you engage with the news, and how we can be a part of your lives. It only takes a few minutes to complete, and we read every response!

I asked the board whether marta has a ridership or modal share (currently 7%) goal. Collie Greenwood kept referring me to marta's KPI dashboard, which does not have ridership goals. He appears confident that ridership numbers will go back up once discrepancies are fixed. bsky.app/profile/naqi...

Jannine Miller, Executive Director, State Road and Tollway Authority, asks whether fared could be adjusted by time of day as well. The board mentioned @ajc.com's @saraegregory.bsky.social by name, and requested her not to write about the above discussion. But I write for @thexylom.com, not the AJC!

! Jim Durrett and Thomas Worthy raise the issue of marta only getting 10% farebox recovery rate while not meeting legal requirements of 40%! They ask whether there should be discussions of rate increases or replacing the 14-year-old $2.50 flat rate with a DC Metro-style rate by distance traveled.

!! marta CEO Collie Greenwood has not had a single two-way conversation with any transit agency executive about their respective fiscal crises

marta is proposing these reduction in positions: -63% in centralized program management, -20% in capital program delivery, -14% in planning, -16% in centralized program management, and -24% in research & analysis! Mind you, nine years into more marta, zero voter-approved projects have been opened!

We're the only nonprofit news outlet regularly covering transit and its climate implications in Atlanta, the eighth-largest metro area in the United States and home to one of the fastest-growing Asian populations. Like what you read? Sustain @thexylom.com's reporting through AANHPI Heritage Month:

Here's the number everyone is waiting for: marta confirms that as of FY25, there are 22,340 parking spots across its 38 Atlanta-area stations, or an average of nearly 600 per station!

50 years after its opening, Editor-at-Large Kang-Chun Cheng took the train from coastal Dar es Salaam, Tanzania into Zambia's Copperbelt Province. She's there to learn what the next fifty years are shaping up for the region. Reporting for this story is supported by @pulitzercenter.bsky.social:

As I reported for @thexylom.com, there is simply not a single thing marta currently does that is even close to average. No expansions, bare-bones weekend service, frequent breakdowns, broken fare gates, talent drain and high-profile public safety issues. www.thexylom.com/post/atlanta...

Meanwhile, a source tells me that Lawrence Graham, marta's General Superintendent of Light Rail, has left his position in April, a fact confirmed by Graham via his Facebook. He joins Director of Data Governance Soo Huey Yap as two high-profile AAPI executives to leave the agency in the past month.

We’re also participating in a @coveringclimatenow.org Joint Coverage Week focused on the people who comprise this silent climate majority. We’ll be zooming in on Indonesia and Zambia, two resource-rich countries charting their paths between superpowers, with support from @pulitzercenter.bsky.social
