There's a chance local elections this year lead to many Councils having new councillors. They'll immediately run into the reality that there is no secret agenda from the UN, no "stop spending" button and that Local Govt often legally bound by Central Govt legislation to spend and deliver services.

Your annual reminder that there is absolutely nothing, except political will, preventing Parliament amending the Renumeration Act to tie their pay increases to, say, the rate of inflation or an average of those across the rest of the public sector. They could even do it under urgency. #nzpol

These are the pay equity claims that the government wiped out in just two days to make its budget balance. It's appalling that tax breaks for tobacco companies are being funded by cutting women's pay rises and backpay. (Also listed in alt text)

I've signed this, and encourage others to do the same.

This moment when the penny drops that trying to implement bathroom bans is an impossibility for the former Tory Chief Secretary Simon Clarke is delicious.

This is the future liberals want.

I had an early start last Friday to head up to Pōhara Marae in Waikato to support the Tuia youth leadership programme. I've had the privilege of mentoring young people participating in Tuia for several years now. As always, it was inspiring to spend time with young leaders from around the motu.

Sigh. I really wish we could have nice things.

A beautiful day for the opening of Ōtautahi Christchurch Pride today. Was it just me, or was it hot? Thanks Sophie for the photo!

OK John, but I (and other Labour colleagues) LITERALLY TOLD YOU much of this, week after week, on Politics Friday. I told you many times about the parlous state of our water infrastructure. People didn’t just randomly become ‘fixated’ on untruths, they were actively fed them. By you, for one. #nzpol

Emily Writes asking the pertinent questions regarding disinformation coming from the heart of Government. Why aren’t other MPs and the media showing concern. #Nzpol “Our Deputy Prime Minister is spreading disinformation - shouldn't we be concerned? What should we expect from our deputy PM?”

So instead of being merged, which was bad, polytechs will be "grouped together", which is a whole different thing and is good, apparently. Is any journalist asking hard questions about this? No evidence of any in this RNZ article. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Our Prime Minister elevating the rights of some people over, er, maybe non-biological people? What on earth might he be on about, I wonder?

National Party MP: it's good to respect the views of a local community and reduce the speed limit to 30kph.

Costello’s ability to repeatedly claim official advice says the opposite to what it actually does is really quite impressive. I wonder what happens when she tries to follow instructions for assembling kit set furniture? www.rnz.co.nz/news/in-dept...

Eddie hits the nail on the head. Homeowners via the Councillors they've elected have been kicking the infrastructure can down the road (for a few decades?). It's their grandchildren that will pick up the tab. As with the climate.
