If Democrats hope to flip the House, expand the Senate map, and take back the White House, it is imperative they pivot decisively to meet Americans where most of them are now: in the sensible center.

It may not satisfy groups on the left, but this principled and pragmatic approach doesn’t throw anyone under the proverbial bus. A real discussion without fear of being canceled shows swing voters that we have a welcoming space in the Democratic coalition.

And Democrats must cancel the gender language police, recognizing when someone’s heart is in the right place, not insisting on using new and controversial terms that are in flux.

“Democrats need not shy away from criticizing the harsh rhetoric and policies of the right and insisting on treating transgender people with dignity and respect.”
In fact, by moving center, policymakers will have better standing to vote against extreme Republican proposals.

For kids under 18, Democrats must be firm, requiring explicit parental consent and protecting safety and fairness in sports. And for adults, Cowan writes, Dems should be committed libertarians.

"Democrats must be clear about their convictions and positions—and those must align with that compassionate but concerned majority," Cowan says. Politicians should keep it simple: share your view that there are two sexes and that there are many ways people can identify by gender.

To win centrist voters, Dems must meet Americans where they are, not where advocates want them to be. Swing voters understand the complexity and believe Republicans can be cruel, but are also exasperated with many Dems, who dismiss this vulnerability at their electoral peril.

While there's no moral equivalency between those two sides—the demonization by the right is much worse—both extremes are wrong and add more heat than light. Dems should express disgust at how both sides have weaponized the issue, signaling that we want to resolve, not exploit.

The DSA is dangerously extreme. Any association with their utterly toxic ideas jeopardizes Democrats’ ability to build a winning, durable coalition that appeals to a majority of Americans and end the Trump era once and for all.

Tyrannical: A subgroup of libertarian DSA members established a Mass Work Caucus inspired by Maoist thought—the same thought that starved between 15 and 50 million people during the Great Leap Forward famine under communist tyrant Mao Zedong.

Antisemitic: DSA candidate Zohran Mamdani refused to condemn the Holocaust—twice. He claims he’s committed to calling out antisemitism, yet joins Hasan Piker’s show while failing to decry Piker for demonizing Jews and saying “it doesn’t matter if rape happened on October 7th.”

Anti-Democratic: DSA encouraged its members to vote third party—or not vote at all—in the 2024 presidential race, choosing “solidarity” over Kamala Harris. They blamed Democrats for Trump’s victory, while actively refusing to support the Democratic candidate.

Russian propagandists: After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, DSA acted as Putin’s mouthpiece. They used Russian talking points, blamed the United States for the onset of the war, and demanded the U.S. withdraw from NATO and abandon its allies. www.nytimes.com/2022/03/08/n...

Anti-worker: DSA advocates for the elimination of jobs that they decide “do not serve the common good.”

Pro-criminal: DSA calls for the “abolition of the carceral state,” including completely defunding and disarming law enforcement and freeing ALL incarcerated people. They literally want to put dangerous criminals back on our streets.
