Jeff Merkley, ranking Dem on the Senate Budget Committee, has issued a few press releases over the past few days as Byrd Rule decisions have been made by the parliamentarian. The moratorium on state laws regulating AI, however, cleared it.

Sheesh. I had a math teacher who used to make jokes about women going to college for their "MRS Degree" circa 1980, but even then he was kidding (I think).

If you're a coupon, you cannot be saved and redeemed at the same time. Wow. That must be weird.

Ted Healy and Shemp met Larry when Fine was emceeing at the Rainbo Gardens nightclub, no longer extant but just a couple of blocks from my current residence. Larry Fine became a Stooge not long after. Larry is an Important Person in this household.

Funny that GOP Sens. Blackburn and Hawley were able to find out about the "moratorium" provision and have pushed back against it (in addition to several Dems in the Senate). It hasn't been lurking there like a secret.

I felt kinda bad when they fired Derek Shelton, because he's a grad of my high school, and I knew his dad (teacher, baseball coach) -- and I also have family connections to the Pittsburgh region and the Pirates (I attended game 4 of the WS in 1979) -- but I guess getting fired is part of that job.

I dimly recall that the director of student legal services when I was an NIU undergrad in the late '80s had worked on the lawsuit over Hampton's killing, but I can't find evidence online. It was campus folklore, although I could be garbling details.

Habeas Corpus (capitalized) was the name of the pet pig of Doc Savage's sidekick, Monk Mayfair. At least that was the first time I saw the phrase (5th grade).
