Great read, highly recommended. One paragraph summary: The AI hype sells us compelling dreams with little factual proof while ignoring the very real damage that flawed solutions cause today. It distracts us (and investments) from pursuing more urgent agendas.

Things move slow in Archeology, right? :) You being a good fit probably had very little to do with you not getting a job offer.

These three will not leave you with any romantic illusions about what war and genocide are about. 1. Timothy Snyder: Bloodlands about the genocides of Hitler and Stalin. 2. Max Hastings: All Hell Let Loose about WWII. 3. Rising '44 about the Polish rising against Nazi Germany in Warsaw in 1944.

Also, Sweden's right wing government/majority has overtaken Denmark as most tough-on-crime anti-immigration with the agreement to send criminals to do jail time in Estonia. It's been a wet dream for Danish politicians for decades.

The small parties KD, C, L, and MP often poll below the 4% between elections, then miraculously make it about the threshold as voters move from M and S "to pull M/S to towards [direction]". Don't celebrate too soon.
