Yea, in my experience "expressing disappointment" often includes public guilt tripping those who decline, and pressuring them or commenting on their weight and/or diet, often in front of a room of colleagues. If you can't just bring it in and leave it in the break room without comment, don't do it.

Trying to gloss over a mistake, pretend it didn't happen, or manage it yourself to the best of YOUR ability, not the team of folks whose literal job it is to manage it? Doesn't help. Get comfortable acknowledging when you don't know, or when you may have messed up. It's important.

We're now fully estranged from the people I'd like to use that line on but if it ever comes up, I think I will defer to that because like you, I used to try to just argue with logic and somehow they always walked away from that feeling like they won because they shouted over me that I was wrong.
