I will say that I had a lot of good art and music teachers growing up who were aging hippies. So just like any subculture, some of them were there for noble reasons and others less so.

I don’t think there was ever much of a cohesive ideology for the hippies to begin with. And ideas of “freedom” and “personal liberty” fed a lot of them directly into libertarianism as they aged.

Opening week of GE, a cast member told us that you could get a third coaxium with a perfect run. I’ve since had to admit he was just messing with us. But I still think about it constantly! A cruel joke to play on an overachiever.

The first may have been the Ralph Bakshi Lord of the Rings. But most frequent was Transformers: The Movie. I must have begged my parents to rent that at least 20 times.

I also hated Married With Children, and didn’t enjoy watching Roseanne. I was from a blue collar family and there was an element of not wanting to watch a living room that looked like mine. You turn on the TV to escape that shit.

I was friends with Rose McGowan’s sister when it came out and we were going to go see it together until she said “Rose says not to see it.” So I’m guessing it was not good.

My family once discovered that all of my grandmother’s “secret family recipes” came from a pamphlet titled “PIES MEN LIKE.”

That’s what I’ve been doing. Write something for myself or text the thought directly to a friend who might like it.

It never would have occurred to me that anyone didn’t like the Ewoks. I had to learn that on the internet, well into my 20s.

Before the Internet, the media that shaped you lived inside you. If you found meaning, or awe, or love, it existed only as a lit torch inside your heart. It was almost impossible to share it in a way that diminished its shine for others. The brain melt of Discovery was a renewable resource.

Oh cool. I also read his columns a lot growing up. Haven’t thought about him in a while. Glad he’s still doing stuff.
