Best governor is a low bar. Staying out of jail seals that status. Srsly, he strikes me as having done a great job

Fun fact, I think they take self-nominations. A faculty member at my graduate institution used to do this, I believe.

One doesn't really want a yacht. Even a Bayesian yacht. One wants a friend with a yacht. I'll wait for the provost's office to get a yacht.

We had some of their types speak at a Constitution Day event on campus several years ago when the responsibility for hosting said event fell to the folks in the Institute for Study of Western Civilization...and it was about abortion, for the most part.

There's a sect of 'textualist' types out there who embrace the notion of "natural law" which precedes and supersedes the Constitution in their minds. This essentially gives its adherents (all on the right from what I can gather) carte blanche to decide anything.

I don't have a horse in this race other than hoping NYC gets a good mayor, but I do find it really amusing to see the billionaire class freaking out over the possibility of Mamdani winning. That's a heuristic I find appealing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Santos claimed that he was actually Andrew Cuomo, too, at some point in his life.

Dallas Love. I seem remember San Antonio opted not to have them in the airport largely because they're closed on Sunday. The Whataburger nearby is also shuttered so no cheaper options. It all sucks so cheaper less sucky would be nice

I also recently met Kathy Valentine of the Go Gos after a Waterboys concert in London. I knew I was out of my element when she and the guy I knew were swapping Clem Burke stories. I did learn she spent summers in Lubbock when she was a kid so we had that. Very cool experience. She was great

As SCOTUS said in Houston v. Hill: The "freedom of individuals verbally to oppose or challenge police action without thereby risking arrest is one of the principal characteristics by which we distinguish a free nation from a police state."

What a wonderful tribute. I can think of few better tributes than raising a glass in memory of lost loved ones.

When the TV weather guy said stay inside, that was my cue to go outside. Seeing my neighbor just underscored how right this was. Stay strong!

as similar weather approached Lubbock last week, my neighbor from across the street (also from MN) and I spent a good 45 minutes monitoring the clouds and such before heading inside mere minutes before the shit hit the fan. I was proud.
