Cost estimate of the House-passed "Big Beautiful Bill" is out It'd be the largest cut to Medicaid+CHIP and SNAP in history while still increasing deficits by $2.4 trillion due to $3.8 trillion in tax cuts This'd be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in history

As the comments on the skeet show there is decent evidence this is AI generated. I'd also like to make people aware that recently there has been an instance of a large scale "unethical" AI research program using reddit. www.science.org/content/arti...

I’ve got a piece in the @nytimes.com this morning on the Supreme Court’s quiet but radical shadow-docket order last week handing Trump yet another tool to eliminate independent expertise & authority and consolidate presidential control over the executive branch www.nytimes.com/2025/05/25/o...

There is no constitutional basis for the idea Congress can't restrict the terms and removal conditions for executive officers because POTUS has to be able to fire whoever he wants at will. It's not there. It doesn't reflect a historical tradition or any original meaning. SCOTUS made it up in Myers.

I don’t mean to be a caricature, but this just isn’t law. The Supreme Court is always making policy. But this is beyond. “This dicta in an emergency order will reassure the markets but just uh trust us on the law here ok no we’re not overruling Humphrey’s yet and when we do we’ll spare the fed.”

This bespoke exception for the Fed is one of the most brazenly made-up things I've ever seen the Supreme Court do (which is saying something). There is no principled basis to distinguish the Fed from other independent agencies. The conservative justices just don't want Trump to crash the market!
