And this Parable is one of the least ambiguous in the entire Bible! Its explicit, textual point is that "neighbor" does *not* refer to those who live in proximity to you or those of the same race or creed, but to those who also live with God's love in their heart. Zero room for interpretation.

Which, of course, is objectively wrong, because in the same Gospel we hear the command to love they neighbor in we have a follow-up story wherein someone specifically asks for clarification about who "my neighbor" refers to!
It is the Parable of the Good Samaritan.

The Ordo Amoris shit Vance spouts is notable mostly because it's a grotesque contortion of Catholic moral teaching, but the sentiment of it- that "Love thy neighbor" is a command to engage in clannish loyalty and spurring of outsiders- is rife in Evangelical communities.

people will raise lincoln as an example of why it is important to compromise for the sake of electoral success and a future greater good, but do not forget that lincoln's willingness to compromise rested on a set of ironclad moral and political commitments.

lincoln was not, at least before the war, an abolitionist nor was he a racial egalitarian. and when accused of being an abolitionist or racial egalitarian, he denied both charges. but he was also a clear and vigorous opponent of the expansion of slavery.

I am generally pro-abundance when it comes to housing, energy, and immigration, and it really sucks to see that movement get co-opted by "just do what's popular" guys because abundance policies often poll poorly! It takes a lot of messaging and outreach to *make* the public move on those issues.

And for all the powerful symbolism of 'Christ the King' no symbol is more powerful than Christ the refugee. If you call yourself a follower of Christ while abandoning the most vulnerable to the State, you are a traitor as far as I am concerned.
This sh*t either means something or it means nothing.

Ha, this seems to have been because of my fairly old phone, which is luckily still chugging along after all these years. I've had better luck in the past few days, though. (And no, I'm not upgrading to a new phone. This one still has a headphone jack!)

Also, nobody tell JKR that my generation grew up reading/writing queer HP erotica 🤣 (we're all ashamed of it now, of course, but it was a thing…)

(To continue what I was saying… there are things you can do to push the electoral environment left and change public opinion on things! I heartily encourage you do to so! But, when elections do come around, you gotta make the best of what you've got at that point in time.) bsky.app/profile/aubr...

I enjoy my work, have formed significant connections with both clients and the community, and do work that I find intensely beautiful and meaningful.
But, the fact that I do it casts a huge shadow over my life, one that follows me everywhere I go. It gets old.

Deepest condolences 😢 I lost my own elderly cat this year and it's one of the hardest things I've ever experienced. May Goose's memory be a blessing to you ❤️

Like, I've known a great many Christians who are wonderful and generous people, and, ya know, unlike the secretary of defense, none of them have had "Deus Vult" tattoos. There are reasons to and not to extend the benefit of the doubt on this sort of thing.

I both feel bad for her (I'm a pagan and I'm Norwegian-American) and I get what you're saying 😕 Norse mythological symbols have been tainted by association with Nazis for some time, sadly, and seeing one (esp. this particular one) on an ICE officer is, at the very least, reason to investigate futher

Makes me think of this bit from John Hodgman's audiobook, The Areas of My Expertise (a book of fake, but creative, facts and trivia). It cracks me up every time! youtu.be/suTygXnsf4c?... (disclaimer: I may or may not have a strange sense of humor)

I wonder why they think the libs will be triggered by steak, beer, bananas, and… strawberries. Do they think we're Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3, and "strawberries" is our trigger word?
