When servility not civility is expected.

Tiny Owl is playing #gameofshrooms tomorrow 14 June (in Aus), so a few little things will be hidden in two fav places in #Brisbane

My Mum has #dementia. She lived with me for 14 years, but is now in care after a fall. Yesterday, she didn’t remember me. She often doesn’t. You’d think that would be the worst thing about visits, but it isn’t. The worst thing is she believes I haven’t visited her, as I sit with her in her grief.

Adumbral tokens.

Important news: the Weston Library in Oxford (part of the Bodleian) has added a small baby play space. And they've called it the Toddleian.

Plain language #editor job. Pass it on! careers.ahpra.gov.au/ci/en/job/49...

Slipcases and stories in production.

This is just the beginning - not only will careers be destroyed, but the quality will plummet www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Busy bee. Almost ready for painting.

The Victorian Era did not exist, we’re measuring it all wrong 😆

An incredible win against a University now forced to take a stand against the supremacy it enabled.

Writers from around the world can submit scripts for BBC Audio Drama with cash prize, and attendance at an award ceremony in the UK to participate in the recording of their dramas for a world premiere. Flight and accommodation expenses are covered by the BBC. Details in link. Please share :)

One of the thing I love about artists and creators is sketchbooks/notebooks showing their thinking, practice, the development of ideas, influences, time, and the joy and thoughtfulness involved in creating.

Coming soon. The Adumbrals. First story, the very gorgeous We Crossed the Bright Blue Water by Trent Jamieson - story artwork by Simon Cottee. Slipcase artwork by Terry Whidborne.

The Sip of Teaseus paradox

Wise words about speaking up from Michelle de Kretser.

A statement from @asauthors.bsky.social on the appalling rescindment of the black&write! fellowship this week. "This represents yet another alarming instance of the undermining of freedom of expression and arms-length arts funding from a major institution." www.asauthors.org.au/news/state-l...

Women can submit anything from a four-line poem to a 3,000-word lead article, from a 300-word bedtime story to a 700-word memoir performance piece – they publish over 60 women in every issue. Deadline 7th July. Details in link. Please share :)

AI, where possible, probable and actual are the same and no duty of care exists. The @chicago.suntimes.com where intentional use of passive language refers to ‘a list’ recommending books that do not exist, but not the writer, editor or board who all have an actual duty of care.

Chicago Sun-Times accused of using AI to create reading list of books that don’t exist

When you use AI to write stuff which then gets published.

I’m playing Game of Shrooms this year and will be hiding these two little guys for someone to find and keep in Sydney on 8 June 😀 🍄 #artskye #gameofshrooms

Prepping for #GameOfShrooms

I quite like this Lethbridge Gallery policy re entirely AI generated works: “The gallery continues its long-standing support of artists and their dedication to developing their own practice, therefore any artworks entirely generated by … AI will be ineligible for entry.”

"Of adults who listen to audiobooks...more than 7 in 10 (72%) felt that audiobooks helped keep their brain stimulated...Over half (55%) said that audiobooks made them feel more connected to the world." —National Literacy Trust Audiobooks are proven to benefit mental health ❤️

Great to see the art book fair still thriving.

We’re doing #GameofShrooms on 14 June. Some shroomy things - like this little slipcase and story by Samuel Maguire - will be hidden around some of our fav places in #Brisbane… just in case you’re looking for shroomy things then.

New authors, here’s my regular reminder about public lending rights payments. This national scheme pays authors for copies of their books in public & educational libraries (over a certain amount). It’s not always a big wad of cash, but it can be very helpful. Info: www.arts.gov.au/funding-and-...
