I’m going to rephrase your post in light of real world consequences: “The security guards, police, and clerks in this mall moving quickly to make calls on their radios and telling the mass murderer to stop killing people are one of the things keeping the mall safe.” Yeah, talk the crook to death.

Thanks for the compassionate response! Part of me finds a bit of underlying joy in being an “enabler”, but every now and then the lack of personal progress gets highlighted and I feel “left behind.” And, as with many neurodivergents, I never truly feel like NTs want to reach down to help me out.

Outstanding book, reading through it for the second time right now actually :) It’s… disturbingly apropos given current political and scientific climates. It’s more important than ever that a “marriage of wonder and skepticism” be maintained to get us through these dark times

Japan should do nothing of the sort. An American military base already occupies a massive chunk of Okinawa- to its detriment. Japan has had peace because it has renounced war. And uncomfortable peace is preferable to familiar warmongering.

Casiopea’s “Make Up City” from 1980. Outstanding funk, lots of poppy synth with deep fretless and upright bass lines. Akira Jimbo’s radically complex mixed acoustic and electric drum parts really carried the groove.

The line between “intentional act of sabotage” and “sabotage by willful ignorance” is extremely minute. Scientifically, the only difference between the two is the arguably subjective mental state of those with the power to affect change. So no, it’s not wrong. Unless you’re trying to make excuses.

Now you’re starting to report on the REAL issues- the consequences of authoritarianism on the population. Well written, JT.

You mean the tremendous number of individuals who already use AI to confirm cultic biases and justify cultic behaviors? This is already happening. If I can ask AI to teach me coding and then falsely claim to be a programmer, then I can ask it if I’m a good person even though I’m a psychopath.

Cis white boys gotta have their power fantasies- and getting out-thought by an intelligent strong woman (actually, multiple intelligent strong women) certainly doesn’t give them the big boners that their kill-everyone fantasies do. I, for one, want nothing to do with that trashbin series.

Great info backed up with solid science as always. Thanks! ^_^

What they didn’t see were the untold numbers of adult autistic meltdowns of various formats that would occur later, triggered by other (seemingly unrelated) events. Correct, I did not cry or otherwise mourn my father. That doesn’t mean I didn’t feel at all.

I’ve discovered that “emotion” and “visibly demonstrative empathy” are often confused. When my father (who was a loving, kind man as opposed to my abusive mother) passed away, I was heartbroken. But when I showed up to work the day after, I showed no outward signs. Folks were disturbed.

I believe that shifting your personal goalposts for the betterment of others is a selfless yet very unrewarding task. Perhaps this is my neurodivergence talking, but I feel that if I am going to motivate to change, it should be completely internalized and not under any sort of external pressure

These are outstanding options to get started. I highly recommend dabbling a bit and finding genres you enjoy specifically- easier to give you recs that way. Also I don’t have any expectations of you as a fan- your anisona doesn’t necessarily mean you’re into anime hardcore. :P

That’s okay. I keep forgetting to care about Twitter so it all sort of evens out, doesn’t it?

This also applies to people who read the joy in a room and immediately proceed to unload a double-barrel of cynicism or negativity into it. *stares pointedly at angry white boomer coworkers* I mean, the room was fine with its rosy aura before you dumped in it, homie. *sigh*

You make excellent points, such that I won’t even begin to disagree. The problem is that, as long as we use the justification “transitioning from <poor tech X> to <better tech Y> is too expensive”, we will never reach sustainability anywhere. It’s not a pleasant catch-22, for sure.
comment in response to post
Thanks for this, excellent data point. This really vividly demonstrates it.
comment in response to post
This transition is one that needs to be subsidized by local, state, and federal governments. The US government has subsidized or incentivized relocation to meet citizen needs in the past, and at this stage, a safer and cleaner environment that is more accommodating and accessible *IS* the need.

Exactly. “Oh no I (a pedestrian) was struck by a lightweight moving bicycle at the incredible speed of 15mph. What will I do about these bruises? This is horrible, let’s let some 3500lb lifted-suspension ego compensator strike me at 65mph instead. Then I won’t have to worry about bruises.” Logic.

Or, now hear me out, walkable and bike-able cities with reliable mass transit and plenty of public green space. Giant smelly dangerously operated machines versus pleasantly relaxing community. Hmmmmm….. Inb4 complaints about “inconvenient” or “mai freedums”.

*checks notes* And yet Japan continues to not do anything about toxic Japanese masculinity, the patriarchy, horrible feminine welfare, millennial financial situations, or their toxic work culture. So this statistic surprises exactly… *checks notes again* … no one.

Wait, really? My doc always told me this was a strong symptom of AuDHD or similar in adults- I’m strongly autistic, and seemingly because of that coffee slows me down and alcohol speeds me up. No idea why, technically. But super cool to know there are others :)

Are you planning on AFO this year? :) It’d be good to see you and your stuff again, make sure you’re doing all right and stuff. ^_^

Oh it was. It’s so well- and fondly-cemented in my memory that I can dredge it up just by hearing any of the music from that story period.

Ei/Raiden Shogun in Genshin. As someone who has never played a Souls game or other difficult game, fighting a boss THAT intimidating while also overwhelmingly under-leveled was an absolute nightmare. Add the incredible music and cutscenes that bookended that moment and man, I’ll never forget it.

Hey Doc, ever played the MiHoYo games? (Genshin, Honkai, ZZZ) Would be curious about your thoughts on the story psychology in Genshin for sure. There’s some pretty well-written lore with some excellent cultural anecdotes that I think would catch your eye.
