I’m gonna push back on this: the tenth General Order for Sentries is to “salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased.” When it says all, that means globally, and if you get saluted, you salute back. I’ve saluted foreign officers and even a Spanish warship. It’s a required custom

I would let my cats out in Michigan, and even after a long winter they would take a couple weeks to reestablish their territory. Cats like to stick close to what they know, and mine would come in rubbing if they hear food being opened

One time a buddy and I were out in town getting lunch, still in Coast Guard uniform. We had to push back really hard, but appreciatively, against a guy who wanted to buy our sandwiches. We were office workers, but just thinking about the possibility that we might inspect his boat someday!
