Chatbots, when designed poorly and with intent, can be a deceptive pattern. Take this example, www.rollingstone.com/culture/cult... This is why LLMs can’t be trusted and the development behind it needs to be watched carefully. LLMs aren’t your friend. Literally.

The new Patreon home page is a classic example of scroll-jacking and I despise how orgs do that. This example in particular. It is absolutely abysmal.

Lots to unpack here. If you can't keep your small children out of harm's way, then you don't need to be a parent. Period. If you don't have a child in the game, you don't need to be there. At all. (Allegedly, the woman may not have had a child in the game) You don't put your hands on someone else

Trying to think clearly about whether or not infinite scrolling is, or can be labelled as Obstruction. I lean towards "yes" due to the impact it has on users w/motor skill or cognitive issues. Infinite scrolling is a curse on the web and should be thrown in the garbage as it was never a good idea.

Ponzu chicken and rice with bok choy and mushrooms slaps.

Susan Collins must be concerned by now.

Looking at the timeline today and thinking why is everyone stunned, imagine if we threw Nixon, Clinton, or even Andrew Johnson in prison, and how much whining I see when we have voted in the same deadbeat, ancient, monolithic politicians who don’t do shit election after election has me exhausted.

Following done. That’s a nice number. 🤣

Happy birthday @marktechson.com!

RIP Chef. One of the best to ever do it.

If your user research is not including research on how deceptive patterns and anti-patterns work and how you can not engage in the creation of them and ways to avoid using them, then you're not doing your research right.

I saw this paragraph in an article on Obstruction in design. "Obstruction is a design process that aims to highlight something (in our case, a text, a logo or a tagline) by partly hiding it." Don't do this. Just don't.

Getting the work underway... looking at you overlays. #Accessibility

Got to chat with both kids today. This has been the best Father’s Day in a long, long time.

I just talked with my daughter on video and got to see all three of my grandchildren. My daughter has done so much and I am so proud of her and my son. There are no words to describe how grateful I am for that and where I’m at now because I’m sober. #Day4328 #gratitude

I had more people at my first ever conference talk (Connect Tech, 9 people) than dipshit had at his failure party… I’m more fit to be the POTUS at this point.

Video call with my daughter today. It’s been awhile so this will be extra special.

Most people click through to get started/working. I am one of those some of the time. I'd like to understand why WebStorm has this deceptive pattern in their software and ask that the checkbox is UN-checked. Don't force your users down a path they don't want to take. Especially when it comes to AI.

This was one of the easy ones…

Read an interesting post On LinkedIn and I agree. LinkedIn isn’t where it’s at. You’re up against the algorithm. Either you post shit that pokes the hornets nest or you remain ethical and steadfast and get buried by millions of AI posts, looking for work posts, and garbage ads. Nope. Not worth it

I mean… I could dust the 🦞 costume off one last time… maybe.

I don’t know how no one (or very few) saw at the beginning of a “pledge of allegiance to the flag…” how far into this dystopia we were going to plummet into. I pledge allegiance to friends and some family, but never to a flag and a government.

youtu.be/3R1tZ6l876Q?...

If you’re running an event and the primary focus is partying/drinking, not only do you have an alcohol problem but you’re excluding people that don’t drink (for whatever reason) intentionally. Maybe you should talk to someone and try and focus on running an event while staying sober through it all.
