I love cities, transport and photography. I work for Transport for London. Whatever I say here is personal.

I would prefer it if people were kind on BlueSky. If that's not why we came here then why did we? I'm with you. You criticised the issue without tearing into the human.

That's fair, and good luck to them. I just can't see any way it's scalable. Any relying on a tool that bad actors can abuse or just not bother to use seems a very fragile and unreliable choice. I hope everyone gets what they want out of BlueSky and it can save from become what Twitter ended up being

I don't think it's a meaningful sign of an author's strength of argument or moral conviction if they haven't used alt text. Let's fight for tools to make everything more acceptable rather than criticising users who want to share a funny photo of a cat, or an image that moved them

I mean that's nice, but if we truly want a widely used social network (I appreciate there are arguments against wider adoption, but I think the benefits outweigh these arguments) then we're just not going to get people to do this. And that's saying nothing of often useless alt text.

Surely alt text is exactly the sort of problem that we're not going to get people to diligently add to every photo so need to look at automation and, yes, machine learning. In the same way the semantic web failed or at least was very different than imagined.

This is amusing timing as I was there, speaking with Nexus and riding on a new train... yesterday!

The old classic UTC Vs local time bug! It happens to the best of us! Thanks for checking, Callum!

And boy did we do that with Beckton! It definitely wasn't a source of mass demand on day one! I remember it very well.

@freewheeling.info makes this point too and although I'm not quite as carefree about where public investment should be made it is fair to say it's very hard to predict so providing good connections to places that don't currently have them is a fairly solid investment

It's taken many years for some stations on the route to come into their own (e.g. Gallions Reach which now has tonnes of housing), but this extension laid the groundwork for all future DLR extensions.

Heavens, how quickly I forget things - this jogged my memory about the North London line serving Custom House! I think the Beckton extension was this incredibly big dice role for the DLR and saw it move from a tiny depot and control centre to a new large site and new signalling across the network

This is the greatest and bestest change - it’s so, so much clearer now. Huge thanks to you and team!

Yes; this will be true for essentially any closure - weekend closures don’t stop at 23:59 on Sunday, but it’s exceptionally close to that as last trains are earlier on a Sunday so the last vehicle movement will be a few minutes past midnight. I think if looking at Monday people will not mean 00:04

Looks amazing! But it's showing the DLR closed on Monday 31st when it's not

(3/3) With decades of Western policy consensus callously swept aside, European nations must now do everything within their power to preserve Ukraine’s sovereignty and repel Russia’s aggression.

(2/3) The UK government is doing its best to live up to this commitment, but the US is effectively siding with Russia in undermining it. Instead of seeing its sovereignty preserved, Ukraine is being pressured to accept a lopsided peace agreement without real guarantees.

This one made me laugh out loud
