games that don't need to make money, games that need to make money, and games that need to make shitloads of money have to be discussed in different ways and flattening the distinctions between them doesn't work.

Make sure your RPG battle transitions, scene composition, and attack animations are at least as cool as this Taiwanese DOS RPG from 1995

Trying to get this scene looking painterly (3D, realtime, all in Unity. Just post pro shaders and a custom render pipeline.)

Unity development is following a tutorial that is only a year old and EVERYTHING IN IT IS NOW OBSOLETE OR DEPRECATED.

Switch 2's possible mouse mode is COOL and all BUT any dev will be frothing at the mouth for more RAM. Death to this screen. Death to countless nights optimizing memory access.

Back in 2021, PMG reported on the unseen games industry crunch taking place at outsourcing studios in SE Asia. Since then, the companies we looked at have continued to work on some of the biggest games in the world, without any push to improve the conditions of the artists doing that work. (1/7)

It occurs to me, after reading posts getting it spectacularly wrong, that there are a lot of misconceptions over how game studios organize and, in particular, who makes the actual decisions about what ends up in your game. Much of it is by folks who don't *try* to get it... but not all, surely. 1/🧵

Err I'm sorry maps? My what is changing?? I feel like this warrants more than a single āš ļø

The best order of operations for any mid-scope indie game that requires funding is: - Build it quickly & quietly assuming you'll self-publish - Pitch to everyone - If unsuccessful, put out a store page & start marketing - If successful, publishers will come back to you - If not, continue as-is

As with every sales break-down of a released game, this one is invaluable. ESPECIALLY because it's a smaller (if still excellent!) title, it's so much more common to find public numbers on mega-hits which are more often outliers than the norm. Thankyou Jo!

Unfortunately l've been told my role is currently at risk of redundancy, so I’m starting to explore potential new opportunities. If anyone has any Audio Designer roles available please let me know- I have 3+ years of game industry experience. Reposts greatly appreciated šŸŽ§šŸŽ®ā¤ļø #GameAudio #AudioDesign

Not to mention proprietary platform support; Small studios have 3.5 reasonable options for Switch/PS5/XBOX and they're all WILDLY different engines.

90% of game dev is looking at a shit version of your work and hoping people only see the last 10% šŸ˜¤šŸ™
