But that too feels like a betrayal of what she was in the world and what we were to each other. The work is working out how to be with her memory in a new way, to accept the loss of how things were because somehow you come to want it, to be with the memories, in the end, to be here, in a new way.

Even after nearly two years without her I still struggle when I think about it to really move through the world as though she is not in it. Forgetting, numbing, diminishing is often easier than feeling the full force of the loss.

I feel worn down, tired, unreliably enthusiastic about doing all this. She made me feel the opposite, the will to be here and to work to change things. I felt that for a second and in doing so felt she was with me. That leap is so disorienting and in the reliving of the realisation so upsetting.
