He should lead by example. We'll all follow him to the pit head. (But, probably, no further.)

Yeah, and that's why they ban books. Great books.

I think you need to watch cycling post-race interviews a little more often Henry. A whole other level of profanity and delivered without any malice. 👌

I'm not sure that's far enough to move from a constituency that elected a Reform candidate in fairness.

There's like two decades between those photos though, right?

That happened to me once (and, sadly, only once). I can assure you that I changed my starter word afterwards. 🤣

I'm not sure that farmed sea fish fed on any baitfish should be part of anyone's diet. It has the veneer of being eco-friendly but is just the opposite. Farmed Atlantic salmon is a disaster too. I'm not sure what the answer is TBH (but it has to not involve destroying communties and eco-systems...)

How would anyone go from voting Lib Dem to voting for Farage's lot? I can sort of understand some of the other movements but not that one.

Quite correctly too, I would imagine it could be a painful procedure.

I have to say that the guy on the right would be a lot healthier looking if he kept his mouth shut around meal times.

You own a yacht and a charge of £1.30 a night is going to have any impact on your choices of where to drop anchor? The Tories have lost any grasp on reality they *might* have once had.

Pound shop Musk. People will still vote for them, unfortunately.

I was very happy to see a Labour government elected last year but I'm increasingly disappointed in their caving in to Reform Oiligarchy messaging. My hope was that they'd win a minority vote and be forced into electoral reform. Best of an increasingly bad bunch at the moment.

I guess it helps to be particularly nerdy and look for the unit numbers on Real Time Trains. I can understand how this might not be for everyone however. It also helps to be travelling north of Preston where, these days, only Pendelinos roam on trains to/from the Smoke.

And as for Nigel’s threat to WFH employees ….

Weasels are pretty slinky, I think you may be doing them a diservice. That's one tremdously, bigly, obese fucking weasel that's just shat its super-sized diaper.

I know there are more important questions that need answers but I can't help wondering, looking at that photograph, what Trump's waist circumference is? It looks a bit on the bigly side to me.

He's probably writing the 'SCAM ALERT' post on Next Door Mar A Lago as we discuss this.

We're witnessing a new birth of fascism (and that's the polite word for it). I hope I live long enough to witness America's version of the Nuremberg trials.

Unless he's going to redirect his unparalleled expertise in Mars exploration* into cryogenics there's absolutely no chance of that happening. Every bag of decaying hamburger has a half-life. (*Citation needed.)

I have some time for this argument but, outside of the devolved governments, it's not going to work in the UK with its first past the post system. In the US, it's looking possible that, however people wish to vote in future elections, the damage might be irreversible.

Best get those runways converted into cycle paths then.

Is there anything similar to Real Time Trains for mainland Europe (or better still, Open Train Times maps)?

Angry people living miserable lives and blaming folk that actually make their lives easier by lessening congestion on the roads. @jimswheels.bsky.social if you have video footage, report it. There needs to be a consequence for threatening behaviour.

Looking forward to Andrew RT Davies's attempt. He should have no difficulty as he's a decade younger. (Gravity might play a part though...)

The RER lines are equivalent to something like the Met or District lines in London. The issue in this case is the long walk from the Concourse at Gare du Nord to the RER platforms at the same station carrying a partially dismantled bike in a soft bag. (Still better than flying however!) 🥴

Worse on the return when I had to deliver the bike to Eurostar's checked luggage office at the very north of Gare du Nord after the interminable trek from the Metro station. Once the bike had been dropped off I had plenty of time to visit other international cities before my train back to the UK..

Oh, it's a bit fancy for sure. It's information I gleaned from the website of @seatsixtyone.bsky.social. Invaluable! I could leave my luggage at my table whilst I went to the loo which was worth the cost of lunch on its own!

Ha! I should have put the activity on Strava when I moved myself from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon with a dismantled (and very expensive) bike in a bag over the RER Green Line. There's a shitload of walking/carrying involved.

That is an issue for sure. I purposely allowed extra time in Paris in case that happened. As the time wasn't needed, I had lunch in the bar of Le Train Bleu at Gare de Lyon. They even allowed my bagged-up bike in there!

Why is it that every person employed in a safety-critical position has to undergo both random and for-cause mandatory drug and alcohol tests and these people do not?

Strangely that potential was recognised even before the tunnel opened. Eurostar had locomotives and rolling stock for overnight trains to run from London, Glasgow, Swansea and Plymouth. It never happened then and, following Brexit, probably never will. A real shame.

Not jealous at all. (Much!) I've just done Carlisle-London-Paris-Nimes and return by train. Fabulous journey compared to flying and time for a long lunch in Paris in both directions. Everyone is chilled, great coffee and pastries on the French legs of the journey, super-enjoyable. It's the future.

It's not without its issues but neither is air travel (obviously). I'd be happy to contribute a piece about my journey.

Earlier this month I undertook a similar journey: Carlisle to Nimes (and with a flipping bike). In previous years, I've flown to Mallorca but I decided to help the planet and my conscious this year. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I'm planning my next low-carbon expedition already.

I've recently come back from a trip to the south of France, with a bike, by train, and from the very north of England. Those socialist railways in France are something to behold. If you experience 300kph trains that arrive on time and you are not already a socialist you may soon be a convert. 🚩🇫🇷
